The Goat’s Personality: Calm, Gentle…

People born in a year of the Goat are generally believed to be gentle, mild-mannered, shy, stable, sympathetic, amicable, and brimming with a strong sense of kindheartedness and justice.

They have very delicate thoughts, strong creativity, and perseverance, and acquire professional skills well. Although they look gentle on the surface, they are tough on the inside, always insisting on their own opinions in their minds. They have strong inner resilience and excellent defensive instincts.

Although they prefer to be in groups, they do not want to be the center of attention. They are reserved and quiet, most likely because they like spending a lot of time in their own thoughts. Goats like to spend money on fashionable things that give them a first class appearance. Although Goats enjoy spending money on the finer things in life, they are not snobbish.

Wood, Fire, Earth, Gold, and Water Goats

In Chinese element theory, each zodiac sign is associated with one of five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth. This means that, for example, a Wood Goat comes once in a 60-year cycle.

It is theorized that a person’s characteristics are decided by their birth year’s zodiac animal sign and element. So there are five types of Goat, each with different characteristics.

Type of Goat Year of Birth Characteristics
Wood Goat 1955, 2015 Amicable, gentle, and compassionate.
Fire Goat 1907, 1967 Amicable, frank, and honest, always making everything clean and tidy.
Earth Goat 1919, 1979 Righteous, honest, straightforward, and will never harm their friends.
Gold Goat 1931, 1991 Ambitious and kind-hearted with a strong sense of responsibility in work; sometimes too stubborn.

Is it a Good Year to Give Birth to a Baby?

There is a popular Chinese folk saying: ‘Only one out of ten people born in a year of the Goat finds happiness’ (十羊九不全), which means that most babies born in a year of the Goat are destined for failed marriages, unhappy families, and bad luck. Most Chinese people also believe that babies born in a Goat year will grow up to be followers rather than leaders.

Therefore, many Chinese couples take steps to avoid having children in a year of the Goat. Previously, many young Chinese couples tried desperately to conceive in a racing against time to had a baby in 2014, which was a year of the Horse. A year of Horse is considered far luckier than a Goat year.

Although this is an outdated superstition, which seems silly, it has a real effect on Chinese society.

Is It the Year of the Sheep, Goat, or Ram?

Chinese people are actually also not quite sure about this. In Chinese the word 羊 (yáng) is a generic term, and can refer to a sheep (绵羊), goat (山羊), ram/buck (公羊 male sheep or goat), antelope (羚羊), etc. There is a lack of clear definition on the zodiac Goat in Chinese history.

However, most Chinese people and experts on folklore believe that the Chinese zodiac animal is the Goat, not the Sheep, and they have some evidence to support their idea.

Firstly, the Chinese zodiac is an invention of the Han nationality, and goats were widely raised by the Han people (unlike sheep), so the zodiac animal is more likely to refer to a goat.

Secondly, a goat image often appears on Chinese zodiac stamps, New Year paper cuttings, and New Year paintings (rather than a sheep).

Thirdly, the Goat was one of the 12 bronze statues of the Chinese zodiac at the Old Summer Palace. Although its head was lost, its present reproduction according to historical records is in the image of a goat.

Year of the Sheep

The Sheep (or Goat) is the eighth sign of the Chinese zodiac. People born in the year of the Sheep are very kind, gentle, polite and shy – they are followers who prefer to be given direction and guidance. Read on if you’re interested in finding out more about the Sheep zodiac sign !

Personality

One of the most likable signs of the Chinese zodiac, Sheep is calm, gentle, caring and selfless. Sheep are very compassionate and sensitive creatures – quick to forgive and understanding of other people’s faults. They are very polite, creative, artistic and wise. These people are always willing to help and take care good care of others because they’re empathetic and sensitive. They can easily attract people thanks to their charismatic and pleasing personalities. When it comes to dealing with tasks, they are not impulsive but always considerate and careful. They want a peaceful and quiet life and will do anything to avoid conflicts.
Sheep don’t like being the center of attention – they always prefer to watch from the sidelines. The overly soft and gentle nature of the Sheep is what will give them the most grief in life. They tend to be pessimistic, indecisive, hesitant, timid, insecure and easily influenced by others. They lack confidence and are vulnerable to being taken advantage of.

Sheep are very creative, imaginative, intelligent, and artistic. They are not suited to desk jobs or highly competitive jobs – they need a job that allows them to express their creativity. Sheep need to be led, guided and protected by a strong leader who knows how to bring out their talents, therefore they should avoid jobs when they need to work alone or in isolation. Sheep dislike routine and discipline and will enjoy a career as a hair stylist, musician, actor, dancer, florist, or painter. Other suitable jobs for the Sheep include scientist, programmer, philosopher, doctor, nurse, or teacher.

Sheep are very calm and serene, so they are generally healthy and don’t get sick very often. However, they don’t take criticism well and sometimes they tend to be oversensitive, which can cause them health problems and feelings of anxiety. Pressure also makes them anxious, so they will need to learn to relax and hand over the reins to someone else at times.

Sheep people fall in love easily and sometimes they’re able to love several people at once. They’re lovable but overly sensitive people who need constant reassurance and affection, so they tend to be very clingy and emotional. However, Sheep can make great lovers who will do anything to make their partners happy. They’re very kind-hearted, giving, and family-oriented.
However, because they’re very private and shy, it can be hard to get them to open up to someone. Sheep need a partner who is attentive, supportive, assuring – someone who can help them develop their own self-confidence.

Best matches for the Sheep: Rabbit, Horse and Pig

Sheep and Rabbit

The Sheep and the Rabbit are two animal signs who share many things in common. They’re very compatible and sensitive to each other’s needs. The Rabbit likes the fact that the Sheep is kind and selfless, and they value order, peace, and harmony. Both of them are romantic and affectionate, so they will to anything to keep each other happy. They can understand each other emotionally and have similar interests in life.

Sheep and Horse

The Sheep and the Hose are a very compatible pair. They enjoy the same things and despite their small differences in personality, they make good romantic and business partners. The Sheep is a bit timid and prefers to stay at home, while the Horse is social and likes to be out having a good time. However, the Sheep is understanding and happy to give the Horse the space he/she needs.

Sheep and Pig

The Sheep and the Pig have much in common – both are very homely, caring, generous, and devoted. The Pig will admire the Sheep’s creative intelligence and unique mind, while the Sheep will love the Pig for its generosity and emotional support. Both signs are very compassionate, understanding, quick to forgive and they both love a peaceful way of life.

Worst matches for the Sheep: Tiger, Rooster and Ox

Sheep and Tiger

The Sheep and the Tiger are completely different animals in the animal world, and similarly, in the Chinese zodiac, these two signs are not romantically compatible. They have different personalities and different priorities in life – the Sheep is looking for emotional security, while the Tiger is possessive about his/her own freedom and prefers to maintain a distance from emotional complexities of a relationship. If they want to stay together for a long time, they will have to make a sincere effort to deal with their personality differences.

Sheep and Rooster

The Sheep and the Rooster can be together as a couple only if they try to be a little more understanding of each other’s needs and motivations. The kind-hearted and gentle Sheep finds the Rooster too sincere and straightforward, while the Rooster finds it really hard to be with someone so sensitive. They both are honest and dependable people, but they have very different approaches to life.

Sheep and Ox

The Sheep and the Ox are not a good match according to Chinese astrology. The Sheep is insecure and shy, while the Ox is strong and protective, but has very high expectations of the Sheep. Even though they both love their home and family, they have too many differences in personality traits. The Ox is driven by practical consideration, while the Sheep partner is led by emotional ones, so big compromises are needed for this relationship to work.

Year of the Sheep for Kids:
The Chinese Zodiac Sheep Child Traits, Personality & Characteristics

The Year of the Sheep (or Goat) brings in a gentle child who is clever, kind and rather quiet. The Chinese Year of the Sheep youth is one who sees the world with wonder in their eyes. In living with these kids you’ll find an undercurrent of determination, compassion and an undeniable sense of what’s right and wrong.

In some ways, it seems like your little Lamb lives mentally in the clouds. He or she loves pondering all manner of things, which also makes them happy. This woolgathering is when the Chinese Sheep youth feeds hopes and dreams that will drive them forward in life. Sheep adore the arts, learning and teaching. This is the child that shows others how to tie their shoes and make the bow pretty!

In their personal space, the Lamb child has their own sense of organization. Please, parents, don’t be tempted to move things for the sake of ambience. The Chinese Zodiac tells us that Sheep needs that structure and finds it comforting. Plus there is a reason behind this behavior. The Sheep child can be a tad high strung. If they do not “feel the love” around them, they become worry warts. This sensitivity is something that follows Sheep through their whole life, sometimes resulting in anxiety. Having that personal hidey-hole means they have a safe spot in which to unwind.

By the way, Sheep loves dressing up for any reason. They will check every last lock of hair for perfection. This tidy, composed exterior view helps calm the inner struggles and insecurity those children born in the Chinese Year of the Sheep experience. Nearly all Sheep-born children like to take control of situations when they really should simply let go and BE. Encourage this child’s dreams so he or she can manifest some of those in reality.

The best companions for Sheep are Horse, Rabbit and Pig children.

Children born in the Chinese Animal Year of the Sheep have a shy, sweet demeanor. They prefer hovering in the background to being in a spotlight. The only time they really want to shine is on special occasions. Be ready for them to pick out the most expensive outfit of the lot. While you might baulk at first, know that your Lamb will find excuses to wear this outfit again and again.

Sheep children are born with innate work ethics. Prestige doesn’t move them. They are happier pondering inventive ideas that feed their fancy. If they do not have time for this rumination, they may become glum or distrustful. The parent of a Chinese Zodiac Sheep kid can plan on spending a lot of energy on reassuring their child and chasing the shadows away. This effort isn’t for nought. When in their comfort zone the Sheep child is among the most loving cuddle-bug on the block.

As the parent of a very artistically inclined child, you often revel quietly by how much beauty this child sees in everything. Those born in the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Sheep are impacted heavily by sensual input, loving the aroma of a spring breeze, the loveliness of a musical strain and the nuances of poetry. The downside of this trait is that the Sheep also recognizes that life, indeed, is not fair. Violence, anger and cruelty seem to impact your young Lamb down to the soul. He or she cannot help but show compassion. This means that parents and family provide security and assurances in an ever-changing and sometimes harsh world. You are the Sheep’s anchor.

If your child was born under the Chinese Sign of the Sheep, he or she illustrates a lot of vulnerability. This attracts strong friends, but it may also draw in the wrong kind of “ally.” The friends that offer Sheep protection are those who often become lifetime companions. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the Sheep-born child’s wishes often manifest without any real exertion!

Sheep treasure their inner circle especially for opinions on difficult decisions. Be careful not to offhandedly tease or embarrass your Lamb. This results in the child burying their feelings and looking to a fantasy life away from exposure. One way of offsetting this is getting the Chinese Sheep child involved in some type of art of their choosing. Children born in the Chinese Year of the Sheep have tremendous potential in creative fields. Saturating themselves with a chosen craft also supports self-assurance.

There are many other lovely personality traits in the Chinese Sheep youth. They are kind to others, appreciate peace (and strive to maintain it), sincere, forgiving and a bit of a romantic. Sheep have a huge heart for animals who they treat with amazing compassion. Volunteering with an animal rights group would be right up Sheep’s alley for expressing this love, while also getting the positive attention they crave.

Friendships are interesting with a kid born in the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Sheep. He or she wants attention, but they also nurture those around them in excess. This sometimes puts people off as overwhelming or manipulative. Sheep certainly doesn’t mean it that way, but this child has to learn boundaries and careful use of his or her energies. The child Sheep gravitates toward confident, protective people hoping among that flock one personal champion exists. Horse or Tiger might fit this bill, but Rat just gets aggravated with the Sheep’s indecisiveness.

Educationally speaking, Sheep has a reasonable intelligence. The key to their success is avoiding unrealistic expectations. We know from Chinese Zodiac characteristics that Sheep likes competition but doesn’t always recognize when they’re swimming with sharks. When Sheep fails they disconnect, which typically leads to concentration problems.

So what is it like to Parent a child born in the Chinese Animal Year of the Sheep? The big challenge is helping your child achieve emotional equilibrium. From a Feng Shui perspective, Sheep benefits from an open-feeling environment. In terms of discipline, Sheep doesn’t react well if it seems overbearing. Give them a little wiggle room in schedules and rules, and stand by with on-going reassurance.

Chinese Zodiac Sheep Kids – Girls

The girl Sheep exudes grace, humility and a definite presence way beyond their years. She is dreamy, uncomplicated and thoughtfully fluid. Many things in your daughter Lamb’s life get only partially done. She knows she can return to it later and adjust using a vivid imagination. Like any child born in the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Sheep, she will be very indecisive and make you crazy by answering you with soft-toned unfinished sentences. Oddly this is also part of her charm.

In terms of health, your Chinese Animal Sheep daughter is prone to hypochondria. The vibes she picks up from others or a space become her own. As an empath and potential medium, cleansing, centering and rest are vital to her psychological makeup. Parents should remain watchful for addictive behaviors as well.

The Sheep daughter is sweet, mild and innocent. Aggression seems to be a foreign word to her. She often gives way to other’s choices or opinions, despite her agile mind. Mostly this reaction is self-protective, hoping to avoid criticism.

The humility of girls born in the Year of the Sheep is second to none. She lives, eats and breaths pure honesty. This certainly attracts a fair number of peers to her side, trusting in her congenial air. These same peers, however, may be startled by the Sheep’s psychic ability (which they define as “feeling something”).

The daughter Sheep is an irrepressible dreamer. She wants nothing more than to find her happily ever after. Her actions follow that goal. There is no fear of kissing a few frogs if it results in the Sheep-born child’s romantic vision.

Sheep is the proverbial Elephant of the Chinese Animal Zodiac in that she doesn’t forget ANYTHING (especially those things you wish she’d forget). This memory benefits school efforts with an aptitude for detailed memorization. Overall the female Sheep is eager to please. She comes to the table with a light heart and gentle soul. She also tends toward over-generosity. Sheep daughters want everyone to be happy, and seeing people or animals in need is heartbreaking. This is a vulnerability in Sheep, but a truly beautiful one.

Chinese Zodiac Sheep Kids – Boys

The boy born in the Chinese Animal Year of the Sheep has a distinctive feminine side, even more so than Snake. He fusses over his appearance. Nothing should be out of place, and he’ll prefer to over-dress for school rather than wearing good, old jeans.

Parents might think that their Sheep-born child is terminally bored with life. This is not true. Rather your son prefers the realm of imagination versus dealing with the here and now. This provides an air of mystery but proves problematic when you’re trying to get him out the door for the bus.

In early years, Chinese writings tell us that boys born in the Animal Year of the Sheep seem prone to the common array of childhood illnesses (something he hates)! As he grows older Sheep turns this memory into a sense of inadequacy especially physical. This leads to laziness and procrastination, particularly as a teen. Like his sister, the male Sheep has a propensity toward addictive behaviors for which parents should watch.

Even from a young age, the Sheep-born boy is highly dependent on others for a sense of self. He expects your world to revolve around his needs. This isn’t the best quality, obviously, but it is one that forces the Sheep to keep on people’s good side so he continues getting assistance.

The little Lamb shows signs of uncertainty and bewilderment as to what life is truly about. In the face of trouble or difficulty, those born in the Chinese Year of the Sheep would rather remain under his dark cloud than take action. Conformity thy name is Sheep.

As a toddler, the Animal Sign of the Sheep learns quickly that cuteness and compliancy pave the way to him being fussed over on a whim. Sadly this doesn’t work so well as he grows up. The male Sheep simply isn’t goal-minded. He’s guided by emotion, insecurity and indecision.

All is not lost for the Sheep. Your boy periodically reaches what could be considered genius solutions and ideas. When he makes a choice, he has enough intuitive sense to go the right way (which keeps a lot of potential trouble at bay). The Sheep-born son also sees right through facades and illusions.

As with many born in the Chinese Animal Year of the Sheep, your son has the capacity for great tenderness and sensitivity toward others. He will listen patiently to friends’ woes, hoping somehow to lift their spirits. The young male Sheep seeks nothing in return for his kindness, other than the sense that somehow peace and comfort have been restored. There isn’t a harmful bone in Sheep’s body, and he hates seeing others harmed.

The Goat is the eighth of all zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. Goat and Deer set off together, but they needed to cross a river. There were no boats available, so they had to swim across. The Deer couldn’t take it and gave up. Goat struggled on by himself and finally made it to the party as eighth place.

The Goat is also associated with the Earthly Branch (地支—dì zhī) wèi (未) and the hours 1–3 in the afternoon. In the terms of yin and yang (阴阳—yīn yáng), the Goat is yin.

Freelance workers and care-takers will benefit, as well. Take delight in the Rat’s blessings for the year.

As generous people, Goats will need to be cautious of giving away too much of their surplus wealth. It would be wise to save for the coming years of financial uncertainty. Education

This year’s horoscope shows both success and misfortune. Stay vigilant when posed with choices, and be mindful of the impact your schooling will have on the majority of your life. A few wrong moves could alter your chances of success. For example, a schedule filled with too many social events and parties will undoubtedly derail your efforts. Remember, you do not have to attend every event; prioritize your courses and studies most of the time. Surround yourself with goal-oriented classmates to keep you on track.

If you can stay focused and keep up the excellent work, you will benefit exponentially. As hard-working individuals, Goats will have no problem getting down to business. Your grades will improve as well as your overall academic standing. Being able to come into a career with such good marks is desirable. You’ve got this.

Goats are not blessed with good health generally, and this year will take a turn for the worse. With such a weak immune system, it is necessary to be on guard for slight shifts in your well-being. Changing temperatures throughout the season will be a cause for worry. Wear the appropriate clothing, drink plenty of water, and eat superfoods. The flu and fever will most likely get you down this year, but also be watchful over your digestion, tooth sensitivities, and kidneys.

Relationships

The Year of the Rat will not bring Goats much in the way of love; relationships will be rather humdrum. The outlook for single Goats is limited, and partners will be few and far between. One or two relationships may bloom, but they won’t last long. Instead of pining after the right person, put your energy into your friendships. You never know; you might get lucky.

For married Goats, spicing up your love life will require thinking outside the box. Plan a romantic vacation for the two of you; a trip to Hawaii or Thailand might bring back the fire that was once there. Even the simplest of evenings can spark excitement. However, those who enjoy the routines of marriage need to do nothing and enjoy the year with their partner.

Lifestyle

Although Goats will face bad luck in the Year of the Rat, 2020 will glimmer with a few minor successes. Maintaining a constant tenacity towards your goals will work well in your favor. Goats will need to pay extra attention to their health for the year; healthy eating and exercise will do you wonders. Relationships will leave much to be desired, but with some effort, you never know what may surface. As for career, you will experience the benefits of the Rat; determination and persistence will pay dividends. Remember, you can always change your luck with positivity and perseverance.

Traits, Personality & Characteristics

Compassionate, empathetic and extremely generous with both time and money, those born in the Year of the Sheep are a bit of a conundrum in that they should never be underestimated because a tremendous but very quiet strength and resolve lives inside their hearts and souls.

Yet, the Chinese Sheep needs the proverbial protective shepherd to watch over them because they are too docile, unassuming and naive to keep themselves out of harm’s way.

On the rare occasion a Sheep does recognize danger, they are excellent at evading or appeasing their enemy and/or gathering others to do battle in their stead.

Good fortune always seems to land at the feet of this Chinese zodiac animal. Gifts, inheritances, support of all kinds simply ‘appear’ throughout the Sheep’s life.

This Chinese zodiac sign is a social creature but does not like to be the center of attention. Sheep prefer to watch from the distant sidelines.

Again, a conundrum because the Chinese Sheep crave attention and absolutely blossom when their considerable creative and artistic endeavors are noticed and praised.

Yet another conundrum exists inside the angelic Chinese Sheep; they are can be consummate pessimists. No matter that abundance and love is showered upon them simply because they were born in the Year of the Sheep, this Chinese animal can focus on the worst case scenario like no other.

Because the Chinese Zodiac Sheep have naturally sophisticated and discriminating tastes, it is easy for them to overspend and live far beyond their means.

Finally, the peace-seeking, peace-loving and peace-keeping Sheep will do anything (even if it means out and out lying) to avoid conflict.

Chinese Zodiac Sheep & The Five Elements

The Story

Not long after the Horse and Snake crossed the finish line, the Sheep, Monkey, and Rooster were spotted crossing the river in a raft. The quick-thinking, ingenious Monkey had spotted a raft laying in tall weeds by the river bank as he made his way through the trees. He couldn’t get the heavy raft into the water by himself so the sturdy Sheep, who was close behind the Monkey in the race, helped push the raft with his head as the Monkey pulled it. Once in the water, both jumped in and were about to cast off from the shore when the Rooster came running through the trees shouting for them to wait. The Monkey and Sheep felt bad for the Rooster because he couldn’t fly and had no feasible way of crossing the river. So, they let him in the raft and the three crossed the river together, with the Monkey using a long stick he had found to help guide the raft. Once on the other side, the Monkey couldn’t get the raft ashore because the current was too strong so the Sheep jumped in the water and pushed the raft will all his might. The Emperor was so impressed with how well they worked together, and so awestruck by the Sheep’s selfless action at the end, that he promptly named the Sheep as the eighth finisher, the Monkey as the ninth, and the Rooster as the tenth.

Love and Compatibility

Sheep people tend to fall in love more easily than most and sometimes they can develop affection for more than one person at a time. They’re very kind-hearted, giving, and family-oriented. Sheep can make great lovers who will work hard to please their partners. They’re lovable, wonderful people to be around and begin a relationship with; however, they can often be overly sensitive and emotional, in constant need of reassurance or affection – some may even say, “clingy”. Because they’re often shy, it can be hard to get them to open up. Sheep need a partner who is attentive, supportive, reassuring, and who can help them develop more self-confidence.

For Men
Sheep men may fall in love many times, or date many women, before deciding to settle down. Many may come across as picky or somewhat critical when trying to find their ideal partner, but this doesn’t necessarily mean something negative as their kind nature drives them to please, and not disappoint, others. It may seem easy to make a Sheep man fall in love because they are so giving, they will come across as enamored – even if they truly aren’t. Their timidness often masks their true feelings, and if they don’t find the right person, a Sheep man will tend to stay single.
For Women
Sentimental and romantic, never forget your anniversary with this woman! To keep her happy, bring her flowers for all important occasions, and occasionally just as a surprise and she will be the ideal partner. Sheep women normally keep a well-ordered and clean household and make very caring, supportive mothers. Most Sheep women tend to be traditional and therefore look for, and expect, a traditional relationship with their partner.

Best Matches: Rabbit, Horse, Pig

Both are romantic and affectionate, so they won’t have any problems keeping each other happy. They usually form a strong emotional bond and have similar interests in life.

2. Sheep and Horse

The Sheep and the Horse enjoy many of the same things and despite their small differences in personality, they make good romantic partners. Both are caring, giving, and loving towards people they care about. The Sheep is understanding and happy to give the Horse the space he/she needs and the Horse will protect and provide for the Sheep.

3. Sheep and Pig

The Sheep and the Pig both enjoy a peaceful home life, and are caring, generous, and devoted people. The Pig will admire the Sheep’s creative intelligence and unique mind, while the Sheep will love the Pig for its generosity and emotional support. Both are very compassionate, understanding, and quick to forgive.

Worst Matches: Tiger, Rooster and Ox

The Sheep and the Tiger are not romantically compatible because their personalities and priorities in life are too different. The Sheep is looking for emotional security and attention, while the Tiger enjoys more freedom and prefers less emotional complexities in a relationship. The Sheep may seem too needy for the Tiger and the Tiger may be too adventurous for the anxious Sheep.

2. Sheep and Rooster

The kind-hearted, gentle, and diplomatic Sheep finds the Rooster too straightforward, while the Rooster finds it really hard to be with someone so sensitive. They both are honest and dependable people, but they have very different approaches to life. There will not be enough emotional attraction here to make a long-lasting relationship and what might start out as romance, can turn into disgust before long.

3. Sheep and Ox

The Sheep can be insecure and shy, while the Ox is usually strong and protective, and will have high expectations of the Sheep. Even though they both love their home and family, they have too many differences in personality traits. The Ox is more practical and the Sheep is more emotional, so even small decisions can often lead to conflicts.

Chinese Animal Zodiac Sheep or Goat

SHEEP or GOAT Intelligent with a mind for business. She has artistic inclination who tend to be pessimistic. Good natured and generous but can be undisciplined and irresponsible. May have somewhat antisocial tendencies. The Sheep is also indecisive and too passive. Yet she has fantastic luck in her life.

Except for the knack of always getting off on the wrong foot with people, the Goat can be charming company. Your are elegant and artistic but the first to complain about things. Put aside your pessimism and worry and try to be less dependent on material comforts. You would be best as an actor, gardener, or beachcomber.

THE SHEEP or GOAT PERSONALITY

This is the most feminine sign of the Chinese zodiac. A person of the Sheep year is called the good Samaritan of the cycle. He is righteous, sincere and easily taken in by sob stories. He is likely to be mild mannered, even shy. At his best, he is artistic, fashionable and a creative worker. At his worst1 he tends to be easily overcome by his emotions, pessimistic and withdrawn.

The Sheep is known for his gentle and compassionate ways. He can forgive easily and be understanding about others’ faults. He dislikes strict schedules and cannot take too much discipline or criticism Fond of children and animals he is dose to nature and general homebody. The Sheep is apt to mother or even smother the objects of his affections. He is possessed by varying moods and finds it impossible to work under pressure. He also finds it difficult to be objective.

The subdued outer appearance of the Sheep belies his inner determination. When threatened, he can respond passionately and firmly even though he detests fighting. Caught in an argument, he would rather sulk than come right out and tell you what he is upset about. His stony silence and pouting will probably achieve more than angry words and he will eventually have his way: As a child, most. often he will be spoiled by one or both of his parents.

The Chinese believe that good fortune smiles on the Sheep because of his pure nature and kind heart. He is generous with his time as well as his money. When you have nowhere to go and no money, you can be sure the Sheep will not turn you away. He will always have the three most important things in life: food, shelter and clothing. Wherever he goes, he is bound to meet people who can and will assist him. A person of this sign will make it a point to marry well and will be cherished not only by his mate, but his in-laws as well. It is said that a Sheep person born in the winter will have a hard life because in this season there is an absence of grass and it is the time Sheep are generally slaughtered for food. However, even in the roughest circumstances, the Sheep will still possess his three basic necessities and people will care deeply for him. His is the eighth sign, and to the Chinese the number 8 symbolizes prosperity and comfort. He has fantastic luck; people often leave him money in their wills and even the poorest of these natives will be able to inherit something of value from their parents or relations. Admirers present the Sheep with expensive presents and rich and powerful patrons take him under their wing. Famous personalities will adopt him and take him as their protege. Somehow the fortunate sheep will always have things made easier for him. His every fall will be cushioned by those who look out for his interests.

Yes, the Sheep can be ingratiating when it comes to currying favors. Consequently, like the Rabbit, he will obtain his wishes without force or violence. He will have great passive endurance and will wear you down with pleas and entreaties. You will never know his mettle until you try to break him. He isn’t that warm and woolly after all. Basically a survivor, the Sheep will know how- to placate or evade his enemies. Failing that, he’ll run home crying and-get his big brother to beat you to a pulp.

The Sheep’s oblique approach can be positively infuriating to natives of more direct lunar signs. Admittedly, his roundabout ways can be quite tiresome, but that is the way he is.- The lower type of Sheep can be so theatrical at times -that he can drive you up the wall. Don’t expect him to come right Out and say exactly what is troubling him. There is no fun for him in being so blunt and brazen. You must be prepared to pry it out of him bit by bit. Entice him with rewards. Promise that you won’t be angry. Humor him. Give him a wide margin and lots of sympathetic nods. He has little sense of time, so you will probably have to rearrange your other appointments, too. Finally, if all else fails, go ahead and bully him, bang the table (he will be impressed), stomp around the room, act like an ogre, but never stop showing that you love and care about him. Then he will come up with the secret hurts he has been nursing for weeks and the two of you will be able to clear the air.

At times, it will be advantageous for the kindly Sheep to have bossy, strong associates. Managers who will both discipline him and put his talents to use. Tough secretaries and even tougher chaperones who will turn down all those unreasonable demands made on his good nature. In short, people to insulate him from being hassled, from playing host to human parasites.

The Sheep never really cuts his umbilical cord. He will always come home to mother and his favorite apple pie. He never forgets birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. And he will make it a point to – celebrate these days ostentatiously (especially when he is not footing the bill). But he is equally sensitive about his own special dates, too. Woe to you if you forgot his birthday or neglected to pay him a visitor send him a get-well card (at the very least) that week he was in the hospital. As far as he is concerned, you practically broke his poor heart in two and he will probably be scarred by this for the rest of his life. The Sheep is basically a worrier. He tends to be pessimistic about events and is prone to predict the worst. Of course, he expects you to vehemently dispel his dark thoughts and he will make sure that there is always someone around to cheer him up. it’s useless to cry alone. He’d rather have an audience, please. Misfortunes touch him deeply and he does not get over hardships easily. Lest others forget, he will also take to recounting his miseries ad infinitum. Another one of his shortcomings is that he has difficulty in denying himself anything. He always overspends and should avoid handling his own finances. An extreme type of Sheep may spread cash around as if he were personally obliged to circulate the currency for the Treasury Department.

The Sheep damsel is inclined to like dainty things and will vote for all the frills and trimmings that come along with them. She is decidedly coquettish and may spend hours on her toilette. She rarely arrives on time for anything, and acts as fragile as bone china. She’ll move like a princess and may have a fresh rose on her desk every morning, to remind her (and you) that she enjoys being a girl. The Sheep lady, will be spanking clean; she is most concerned with personal hygiene, even though her house may be a mess and she doesn’t know where anything is. The more aloof types will be preoccupied by sanitary standards. Her children will be scrubbed clean and always look presentable. She has flawless taste in choosing clothes and likes smart accessories.

She will be good at costuming, window dressing, doing stage sets. Disorganized and scatter-brained as she may appear,’ everything will fall perfectly into place at the last minute, and she will confound all her critics.

The Sheep girl will openly show her favoritism and will consort day in and day out with those she dubs her special people, her confidants. If she doesn’t love you, well, don’t complain. At least she will just’ ignore you without trying to reform you or come after you with a cudgel like a Dragon or an Ox lady. Hers is the voice of gentle persuasion. She’ll twist your arm, but in the most engaging manner. For her, half the fun will be the “getting there,” the flirting, the cajoling. Her “Yes” could always mean “No” and her “No” could mean “Maybe.” If you are a knight in shining armor and you want to win this fair maiden, it will always be worth the challenge to find out.

All Sheep people, from nine to ninety, are diehard romantics. Soft music, moonlight and intimate candlelit dinners never fail to work their magic on them.

A person born under this sign will have the beguiling knack `of turning his very weakness into strength. He knows how to get what he wants by insinuations and subtle hints. He. is master of the soft-sell technique, so don’t ever underestimate him or you will be caught off guard. His sedate, earnest and sometimes whimpering ways have proven effective in wearing down the strongest defenses. He can plead his case so convincingly with unfeigned emotions that sometimes he doesn’t even have need for many words.

The Sheep will come up with preposterous requests, bordering on blackmail and highway robbery. And just when you are about to smack him down with a loud, resounding “No,” you notice that chaste and innocent look on his face, that tear hanging from the corner of his eye, the slight quivering of his lips, and suddenly you feel like some horrible monster taking a lamb to the slaughter. Needless to say, you reluctantly give your consent to his ludicrous demands, still not clear on why or how such a harmless-looking, vulnerable creature could do you in.’ Case closed.

As the Sheep person will never like to deliberately displease those he loves, he may float about doing nothing in order to avoid conflict and be criticized in the end for failing to take a firm stand on issues. He is difficult to deal with as he is supersensitive, and given to excessive self-pity and even tears.

Appreciation of his talents will make the Sheep blossom spectacularly. He craves love, attention and approvalÄin that order. He should go into any creative field where he excels, and be given a free hand to do what pleases him most. Where beauty is concerned, don’t worry, the Sheep will not disappoint you. He has very discriminating taste and discerning preferences. Then again, it is only fair to warn you that he also tends to spend a lot and may not be very practical.

Unless he was born at the time of day governed by a strong sign such as a Dragon, Snake or Tiger, he should not take on jobs with too much responsibility or decision-making. Being passive by nature, he shuns confrontation and law enforcement.

On the whole, it can be said that the Sheep will not have to work hard for a living. Good things come to him naturally, which is perfect, as he loves luxury and ease. Like his best friend, the Rabbit, he has the soul of a connoisseur. Anything ugly or lowly depresses him. He is so sensitive to beauty and balance that his moods are largely governed by his surroundings. He functions best in bright, airy and tastefully appointed rooms.

In his life he will need strong and loyal people to lean on. The outgoing and optimistic characteristics of the Horse, Boar and Tiger will complement his personality. He will also find perfect harmony with the Rabbit. Monkey, Dragon, Rooster, Snake or another Sheep will do very nicely together, too. The Rat will dislike the Sheep’s spendthrift ways and lack of self denial. The Sheep will not find sympathy or happiness with the stern people of the Ox year or the practical Dog persons, who will have no patience to listen to the Sheep’s petty woes.

THE FIVE TYPES OF SHEEP or GOAT

Metal Sheep – 1871, 1931, 1991, 2051

The Metal Sheep will have great faith in himself and know the value of his talents. He can camouflage his high degree of sensitivity by putting up a brave front, although actually he has a very vulnerable ego and is easily offended by offhand remarks.

Metal reinforces his flowing artistic tastes and he will be inspired to search continuously for beauty in all forms. His home could be a masterpiece of interior decoration, as he is most concerned about harmony and balance in his daily life. Leaving a familiar environment can be traumatic for him; he will find it hard to adjust to change.

This type of Sheep will also aspire to security in both his domestic and financial life. His services won’t come cheap, although he is not averse to handing out free meal tickets now and then.

His social activities will be limited to those people he cherishes or those who could be of use to his career. The uninitiated will have to wait for him to warm up to their advances.

Beneath his calm and helpful exterior, the Metal Sheep has unstable emotions that he finds hard to control. As a result, he can be possessive, jealous and overprotective of his loved ones. He should allow people about him more freedom. Expecting everyone to be at his beck and call will only cause resentment, as well as resistance to the invaluable contributions he could make.

Water Sheep – 1883, 1943, 2003, 2063

This type of Sheep will be extremely appealing to others. There may be dozens of people around who will want to mother him, and if he is in need of help — he can summon an army.

Popular but not really knowledgeable, meek but innately opportunistic, the Water Sheep will seek out people he can rely on. When Water is joined with his basic sign, it encourages him to travel the route of the least resistance. He is impressionable and will always go along with the wishes of the majority or those who have strong influence on him. But while he may readily absorb the ideas of others, he will still cling to what he is accustomed to. He fears changes in his life style and will not be too crazy about exploring the unknown.

Although he has a diversified personality and can mix well with almost anyone, he also has a martyrdom complex and will feel rejected and persecuted whenever he is not allowed to have his way.

Wood Sheep – 1894, 1954, 2014, 2074

A thoughtful, good-humored Sheep, with leisurely ways, but mindful of other people’s wishes. He is sentimental and strives to please; with Wood as his element he will be prevented from being to flippant. His nature will be steadier and more generous and he will have high moral principles.

This loving Sheep will have complete trust in those he believes in. He will put his life in their hands with the faith of a child. Even while he knows his intrinsic worth, this Sheep allows others to take advantage of him. He capitulates too readily when harassed and makes unwise sacrifices for the sake of keeping the peace.

The Wood Sheep has the tendency to mother others and can be most devoted to those he cares about. He will be overwhelmed by the circumstances of those less fortunate than himself and may have a collection of human as well as animal strays to feed.

His good deeds and compassion will not go unrewarded. Because he won’t mind supporting others, money will always come to him when he is in need. He will receive financial help or inherit money from unlikely sources.

Fire Sheep – 1907, 1967, 2027, 2087

The Fire Sheep is sure-footed; he is more courageous about following his intuitions and he will take the initiative in his work.

His creativity lies in his ability to dramatize rather than invent. He can highlight strong points and play down weaknesses. Even experimenting with vivid colors, he can still produce restful and pleasant compositions.

He would like to own a stately home if possible, because he is indulgent where his personal comforts are concerned and he likes to entertain lavishly. Consequently, he is likely to overextend himself financially and mismanage his own affairs.

Fire makes him very energetic and aggressive. He is outspoken when offended. He will exhibit an enticing personal grace but his emotionalism could, at times, defy logic.

When the Fire Sheep is negative, he is given to wishful thinking without realizing the benefits of his present situation. He reaches for the proverbial pie in the sky and will be sullen and spiteful when discouraged by reality.

Earth Sheep – 1859, 1919, 1979, 2039

This type of Sheep is optimistic and more self-reliant. In spite of his strong attachments to the domestic scene and devoted loyalty to family members, he will still try to maintain a certain degree of independence.

Earth as his element makes him conservative and careful. He won’t like to waste money but he won’t be counting the pennies either. But being a sheep, he will still find it difficult to deny himself. What may appear as luxuries to other people will be bare necessities to him.

However, just as he plays hard, the Earth Sheep will work hard. He can take his responsibilities seriously and will go out of his way to help his friends. It is unlikely that he will ever turn his back on someone in trouble.

Although he may be more adept at concealing his emotions, this particular Sheep is also prone to being neurotic and ultradefensive when criticized.
