She exercises hard, then follows those bouts with a day or two off. Swift is also an advocate for staying hydrated, and has joked that she drinks so much water her friends call her an alien.
Swift’s final rule for herself is to skip the judgment. She prefers instead to keep an internal record on if she’s had a productive, healthy week. If not, she makes changes the following week.

Swift finds her rhythm with an hour-long treadmill run every day to her favorite music. She advocates for running as it allows her to exercise regardless of her location.

The 30-year-old pop star talks about her struggles in “Miss Americana,” a documentary that will be released on Netflix on Jan. 31 after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival on Thursday night.

“It’s not good for me to see pictures of myself every day,” she says in a voice-over in the film. “It’s only happened a few times, and I’m not in any way proud of it. A picture of me where I feel like I looked like my tummy was too big, or … someone said that I looked pregnant … and that’ll just trigger me to just starve a little bit — just stop eating.”
Swift expanded on those comments in an interview with Variety in which she spoke about why she decided to address her eating disorder in the film.
“I didn’t know if I was going to feel comfortable with talking about body image and talking about the stuff I’ve gone through in terms of how unhealthy that’s been for me — my relationship with food and all that over the years,” she said. “But the way that (director) Lana (Wilson) tells the story, it really makes sense.

“I’m not as articulate as I should be about this topic because there are so many people who could talk about it in a better way. But all I know is my own experience. And my relationship with food was exactly the same psychology that I applied to everything else in my life: If I was given a pat on the head, I registered that as good. Swift began believing that starving herself was normal behavior.
“I thought that I was supposed to feel like I was going to pass out at the end of a show, or in the middle of it,” she says in the documentary. “Now I realize, no, if you eat food, have energy, get stronger, you can do all these shows and not feel (exhausted).”
Being featured on the cover of tabloid magazines that dissected her appearance when she was a teen also had a damaging effect.
“I remember how, when I was 18, that was the first time I was on the cover of a magazine, and the headline was like ‘Pregnant at 18?’” she told Variety. “And it was because I had worn something that made my lower stomach look not flat. So I just registered that as a punishment.
“And then I’d walk into a photo shoot and be in the dressing room and somebody who worked at a magazine would say, ‘Oh, wow, this is so amazing that you can fit into the sample sizes. Usually we have to make alterations to the dresses, but we can take them right off the runway and put them on you!’ And I looked at that as a pat on the head. You register that enough times, and you just start to accommodate everything towards praise and punishment, including your own body.”
Swift struggled with whether she wanted to open up about the topic at all.
“I think I’ve never really wanted to talk about that before, and I’m pretty uncomfortable talking about it now,” she told Variety. “But in the context of every other thing that I was doing or not doing in my life, I think it makes sense.”
Wilson applauded Swift’s honesty given how many girls and women see her as a role model.
“I think it will have a huge impact,” she told Variety.
Swift has also endured a difficult time in her family’s life in the last five years, as her mother, Andrea Swift, 62, was first treated for breast cancer in 2015 and then had it return last year. Swift also revealed recently that doctors discovered that Andrea has a brain tumor, which they found while she was undergoing chemotherapy.
The singer also has had an ongoing public spat with Scooter Braun, the music executive who bought the rights to the master recordings of her first six albums from her old record label. She wrote on Twitter in November that Braun was preventing her from using performance footage in the Netflix documentary and then delivered a scathing speech against Braun at Billboard’s Women in Music event last month.
In the trailer for her upcoming Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, Taylor Swift reflects on her upbringing in the music industry. “I became the person everyone wanted me to be,” she says. She’s referring to the way labels forced her quiet, content, “nice girl” image—but that sentiment can also describe how she fell into an eating disorder.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Thursday night, where media outlets got a first look. And according to Variety, it further explores how fame, paparazzi, and the opinions of others warped Swift’s views of her body over time. “It’s not good for me to see pictures of myself every day,” she reportedly says in the film. She goes on to admit that although “it’s only happened a few times, and I’m not in any way proud of it,” there have been times when she’s seen “a picture of me where I feel like I looked like my tummy was too big, or… someone said that I looked pregnant … and that’ll just trigger me to just starve a little bit—just stop eating.”

The first time she saw herself on a tabloid cover, she happened to be wearing something that made her stomach look “not flat.” She told Variety that a tagline read, “Pregnant at 18?”
“So I just registered that as a punishment,” she said. “And then I’d walk into a photo shoot and be in the dressing room and somebody who worked at a magazine would say, ‘Oh, wow, this is so amazing that you can fit into the sample sizes. Usually we have to make alterations to the dresses, but we can take them right off the runway and put them on you!’ And I looked at that as a pat on the head. She went on to explain that the ease and frequency with which women comment on each others’ bodies is contributing to the problem.“It’s incessant, and I can say this as a woman: It’s amazing to me how people are constantly like ‘You look skinny’ or ‘You’ve gained weight.’ People you barely know say this to you,” she said. “And it feels awful, and you can’t win either way.” The dialogue has become normalized.

Now that Swift can more easily recognize it, she’s quicker to deflect it, but she still finds inspiration and encouragement through others who are working hard to shift the conversation, like body image activist and The Good Place star Jameela Jamil who heads the “I Weigh” movement. “She’s one of the people who, when I read what she says, it sticks with me and it helps me,” Swift said.
When Swift turned 30 in December, she really started leaning into body-positive mantras. “One thing going into my 30s that I’m really stoked about is I now can really recognize and diagnose toxic messages being sent to me by society, by culture about my body,” she said in a video interview for British Vogue. “I need to feel healthy in my life and I need to take pleasure in food and I need to not use my body as an exercise of control when I feel out of control in my life.”
Like she says in the Miss Americana trailer, she had to “deconstruct an entire belief system, toss it out, and reject it,” which is something she elaborated on in her list of 30 things she learned before turning 30 for Elle. “I learned to stop hating every ounce of fat on my body. I worked hard to retrain my brain that a little extra weight means curves, shinier hair, and more energy,” she wrote. “I think a lot of us push the boundaries of dieting, but taking it too far can be really dangerous. There is no quick fix. I work on accepting my body every day.”
Miss Americana debuts in select theaters and on Netflix on January 31.

In the lyrics of her much-analysed new revenge single “Look What You Made Me Do”, Taylor Swift sings that she “got harder in the nick of time”.
If you think she means she had to toughen up after intense feuds with Kanye West and Katy Perry, or her break-ups with Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, sorry, but you’re wrong – it turns out she’s talking about her ripped body.
I know this because as I write I can still feel the burn in my thighs from a class at Body By Simone, Taylor’s favourite workout – she’s regularly seen arriving at the studio’s non-descript building in Chelsea on Manhattan’s lower west side.
When I showed up for my first session recently, the hour-long Full Body class, I recognised the façade from paparazzi photos of Taylor, but sadly there wasn’t a black SUV parked out the front to indicate I’d be getting my sweat on with Swift.
There were, however, two young women in the class that could easily blend in to Swift’s squad – leggy, high cheekbone-d types I’m pretty sure I heard congratulate each other on getting picked for this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
I could have felt intimidated, but there were plenty of non-model looking gals like myself in the bright, mirrored studio, and a quote on the wall put any nerves at ease:
“Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion.”
I’m not sure that’s 100% correct, but it was enough to stop me feigning an emergency and fleeing the studio.

Body By Simone was founded by Australian Simone De La Rue, a personal trainer and former Broadway dancer.
Many A-listers including Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts and Chrissy Teigen swear by her technique, and shortly after a buzzing, smiling instructor greeted the class and pressed play on the music, I discovered why.

The Full Body class is best described as a mash-up of Body Attack and Pilates.
It started off with a high-energy track to warm up – lots of jumping jacks, kicking our heels to our butts and moving forward and back across the room as a group.
As a generally uncoordinated person I struggled to follow the footsteps, but remembering that inspiring quote on the wall, I just focused on moving to get my blood pumping without obsessing over getting my feet right.
Another track involved wearing wrist weights to do overhead shoulder presses, arm circles, dumbbell rows (without dumbbells) and tricep moves. At first it felt easier not having to hold onto weights, but by the end my biceps were jelly.
After a few more Body Attack-style sets, during which Kanye West’s “Power” came on – Taylor would not approve – the last couple of tracks were Pilates-focused.
Getting down on our mats, we did three excruciating rounds of leg lifts on each side before finishing with ab work.
Laying on our backs, we held a ball between our knees for bridge squeezes, then placed it between our feet and kept our legs high in the air and reached towards it.
When a second Kanye track, “Gold Digger” started blaring, I was glad Taylor wasn’t there to suffer that awkwardness – as if the workout isn’t hard enough already!
At the end of the hour I was sweaty and puffed from the cardio, and my arm, core, thigh and butt muscles ached like they hadn’t in a long time.
Taylor would have loved it, except for the Kanye West soundtrack – I think it’s safe to assume she probably brings her own enemy-free playlist to class.

This is how we feel about today being Friday! How perfectly does Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” fit in with the 1988 National Aerobic Championship routine? First and foremost, however, we owe thanks to the person who put this video together, Thomas Jung. It’s been around for a few months now, but people just can’t seem to get enough – and neither can we!
Whether you love her or hate her, you have to admit that she seems to really be in shape. So, what does T-swift do to stay fit, you ask? According to HealthyCeleb, she tries to get an hour of cardio in everyday whether it’s on the treadmill or elliptical machine. Although Taylor is naturally thin and perfectly stunning every time we see her on stage or the red carpet, believe it or not she loves to sweat. She believes the more you sweat, the more toxins are released from the body. She’s right! And it shows. At 5 feet 11 inches, her mile long legs are toned and ready to dance at any moment.
Taylor’s workout routine doesn’t include any weight lifting or any muscular exercise at all, her main goal is to improve her endurance on stage through tons of cardio. This makes sense due to long hours on stage both for rehearsal and the main performance – she starts her 1989 World Tour in Japan on May 5th.

T-swift is not only practical with her workouts but with her diet as well. She believes that skipping meals during the day will only leave you to overeat later. Again, she’s right. She loves to eat and tries to cook any chance she can get. Sugary drinks aren’t her thing and instead sticks to mostly water and skinny vanilla lattes to give her a boost. During her long weeks of recording, Taylor keeps it light and simple with salads, sandwiches and yogurt. But like any of us she takes the weekends to cheat a little on food like burgers, fries and cookies (that she bakes). Is there anything this girl can’t do?
Leave it to Taylor Swift to have it all down: diet, exercise and a pretty awesome lifestyle. Now, I don’t know many people personally (or any people at all actually) with that kind of life but if Taylor can stay in shape and eat healthy with her hectic schedule, we all can. Even if cardio isn’t your thing and you prefer to vary your workouts, you’ll get a good laugh and dance along with this aerobics video this weekend, anyways!

On the heels of her latest single “Shake It Off,” released just last week, 25-year-old songstress Taylor Swift seems to be living the dream. The artist, whose fifth studio album is due out in late October, not only has a powerful set of pipes — but also one of the most enviable bodies in show business.
As much as it helps that Swift is a young, lithe, leggy blonde in the first place — she stands at a statuesque 5-foot-11 — her peak fitness didn’t just fall into her lap: Swift works hard on her physical fitness because it’s part of the job. “For me, working out is not so I can get skinny,” she said. “It’s so that I’m not panting on stage.” Swift’s hard work, discipline, and confessional style of songwriting have all contributed in their own ways to her success — both professionally and personally. It may seem impossible to achieve this stunner’s looks on your own terms, but following Swift’s lifestyle could lead to surprisingly successful results.
Commitment is the key to Swift’s success. “Regardless of her tour schedule,” writes Web MD, “She makes sure to squeeze in an hour-long run on a treadmill every day.” This consistent effort is the first key to the musician’s physique — but it is far from the only one. Her core philosophy is to work hard, but to treat herself for her efforts. “I have a need to feel like I’ve earned things, so when I have a week of working really hard, I get to have a day or two off — whether it’s from exercise or watching what I eat,” Swift told Web MD.
To help boost her productivity on the treadmill, Swift listens to all the new music she can get on her iPod. In fact, she will go so far as to prohibit herself from listening to certain music until she’s hopped on the treadmill. For someone whose life is so comprehensively summed up in verse, this is the ultimate motivation to work on her cardio. “I don’t like any kind of exercise other than running. And I love that because it’s about the music,” she said. “For me … running is about blasting a whole bunch of new songs and running to the beat. It’s also good because it makes me find a gym wherever I am.”
This routine powers Swift through about an hour of cardio activity with every trip to the treadmill or elliptical. With legs as long as hers, her body could likely even stand longer distances — but her touring and publicity schedules tend to be prohibitive, and judging by her physique, the current routine is a favorable one. What’s perhaps most impressive about this regimen, notes FitSugar, is Swift’s incessant ability to look radiant upon leaving the gym (though that may not be for lack of trying, writes US Weekly).

Swift maintains a responsible diet, but by no means does she deprive herself. Her chief priority is a generous intake of water: “I drink, like, ten bottles of water a day,” she tells Bon Appétit.
“During the week, I try to eat healthily, so that means salads, yogurt, and sandwiches,” she tells Web MD. “No sugary drinks. I try to keep it lighter, but it’s nothing too regimented or crazy. I don’t like to create too many rules where I don’t need them. We know what’s good for us, thanks to common sense.”
Still, however, she has a well-balanced streak of indulgences peppering her diet — particularly on weekends, when she lends herself a bit more leeway in terms of dietary intake. “I like comfort foods. I love a burger and fries, I love ice cream so much, and I love baking cookies. Actually, I love baking anything.” Swift allows herself certain responsible indulgences, such as a Starbucks splurge every morning. Her cheat Starbucks order of choice? A pumpkin spice latte.
It’s remarkable that Swift can maintain these healthy appetites for food, in the increasingly diet- and deprivation-frenzied world of popular culture. But it’s invaluable, as well, considering the singer-songwriter’s legions of fans and the influence that she bears over millions of inspired listeners.
As Elisabetta Politi, RD, MPH, CDE, tells Web MD, Swift’s practical approach to food, diet, and exercise make her an exceptional role model for the impressionable youth: Eat well, indulge occasionally, drink tons of water, and don’t deprive yourself. Follow these fundamental tenets of Swift’s diet and you’ll achieve certain success.

I feel a kinship with Taylor Swift even though I have never met her. I think that she and I would be friends! I too have always wanted to live next door to a Kennedy and then move away really quickly. I feel the song “Style” is the most-trenchant commentary about millennials I have ever heard. (We are obsessed with style! It’s so wack.) Every poem I ever wrote growing up was some version of “Mean,” except set in the 1920s. I even thought about wearing a bowler hat to the gym the other day!
So when I stumbled across an article on WebMD titled “Taylor Swift’s Rules for Healthy Living” — an interview about Taylor Swift’s diet conducted when she was approximately 20 years old and shilling Speak Now hard-core — I experienced an unadulterated sense of triumph. Finally, I could eat exactly in the style of my friend Taylor! Isn’t that what we all want, aside from the ability to sell 2 million albums?
It is not often that an article on WebMD is both comforting and informative, but this one really was. Taylor’s diet is so normal — like what a nutritionist would tell you to eat. It is like no diet I have ever tried, in my entire history of trying the diets of famous people as a job.

I try to keep it lighter, but it’s nothing too regimented or crazy.” But on the weekends, all bets are off! “I like comfort foods. I love a burger and fries, I love ice cream so much, and I love baking cookies. Actually, I love baking anything.”
Despite how exciting this is, it would be wrong to focus on the diet of Taylor’s youngest self. It would ignore the multiplicity of Taylors who have marched through the American consciousness in the past ten years. For example, the “Welcome to New York” Taylor who loves strolling around Tribeca wearing curiously long socks. Or the Taylors who dated Jake Gyllenhaal and Harry Styles! Or the Taylor who always crimped her hair. I would attempt, in my time of living like Taylor, to embody all of these.
I start today at “Welcome to New York” Taylor’s gym, a place called ModelFit on the Bowery. ModelFit is in Terry Richardson’s former “photo studio” (!!) and is a “unique, bespoke approach to healthy living” that “incorporate a mix of Pilates, Yoga, movement, motion, balance stability, functional training.” Okay!
The best thing about ModelFit is that it is full of actual models. They are all tall and beautiful and I have never seen so many cashmere beanies at a workout class in my entire life. The second great thing about ModelFit is that all the models seem to know each other from modeling. I get there slightly early and most of the models are standing around in groups talking to each other about texts. I just sort of stand there and look at myself in the mirror, cursing the fact that I have no hat, bowler or beanie. Why is my head so wide? Is something wrong with it? Does it mean something bad about my personality? This is when the instructor walks in.
The instructor is also possibly a model and carrying an iced coffee. He is quite jocular — as if he were truly popular in a former life. I immediately want to win his respect but know it is impossible. Eventually, he sets down his iced coffee and we begin.
Now, I am not in particularly “good shape.” One time I almost cried while doing thigh dancing at Physique 57. But ModelFit is one of the easiest fitness classes I have ever taken in my life. It seems to consist of moving very slowly and stretching a rubber band with your arm. There are a million breaks so that people can catch their breath even though no one is out of breath. I wonder how the models can exercise this way and still be models but then I realize this is probably the best thing for them. Models don’t really need to burn fat, per se. They just need to expose very small muscles in their torsos and keep wearing their hats.
After class, I grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte and head to Theory in the Meatpacking District, where Taylor was recently spotted shopping with Cara Delevingne. According to WebMD, Taylor loves Pumpkin Spice Lattes and lets herself have them on weekends. “I’m never cutting out what I love, which is Starbucks,” said Taylor to WebMD.
I have never had a Pumpkin Spice Latte. It is kind of delicious in a nauseating way.
At Theory, the clothes are beautiful — the severe workwear of my dreams. I even spot a cashmere bodysuit. Taylor’s life is so fun!
This morning, I try to confine myself to bread and water at brunch, just like Friend Taylor reportedly did while dining with a group at Butter in Midtown. Aside from one or two bites of hash (my favorite food), I succeed, but I eat a lot of bread, perhaps defeating the overall purpose. However, Taylor might approve of even that, since she doesn’t like anything “too regimented or crazy.” Then I have a Pumpkin Spice Latte, which is sort of disgusting when you have one twice in a row, but I do it while strolling near my house, thinking about the time when Taylor Swift strolled with Jake Gyllenhaal while they drank Maple Lattes. He apparently once rented out an entire movie theater for them to go on a date. I find that romantic!
For dinner I go to the restaurant where Taylor had her 25th birthday (to which Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé and Jay Z were invited, a.k.a. the best party in all the world). It is a super-cool place that has lots of wooden beams, is really expensive, and features a micro-seasonal menu. Trying to channel Taylor, I order cabbage stuffed with other vegetables. It’s not even bad! I wish NYC were actually like this. It’s kind of like a long Sex and the City episode without any of the parts that make you feel existential despair or the impossibility of human connection.
Today is a Monday, and therefore I start the day with a skinny Vanilla Latte, which Taylor virtuously drinks on weekdays instead of Pumpkin Spice. It tastes like NutraSweet. I also have Taylor’s “go-to breakfast” (according to Bon Appétit), a crepe with cheese and ham and a fried egg on top. She even Instagrammed a picture of this crepe once. That is how meaningful it is to her. This is a delicious and decadent breakfast. I feel as if I am in France! But I’m not. I am just wearing a fedora I randomly bought online because I couldn’t find a bowler hat.
Later, I decide to go to SoulCycle. Apparently, Taylor attends classes with Karlie Kloss (I am noticing that a lot of Taylor’s life in New York is going to fancy exercise classes, and I approve. There is no better way to exercise. If I had my druthers, it would be my life, too.)
I arrive at SoulCycle a little breathless from running there. I am slightly late, as I am for almost everything I have ever done, but I can’t even focus on the gravity of that because there is too much writing all over the wall of the SoulCycle. What is it saying?
A SoulCycle employee then gives me spiked shoes and leads me to an extremely dark room lit only by candles. It is full of people on spinning bikes whipping their heads up and down vociferously to a remix of a Justin Timberlake song. The music is blaring so loudly I can’t hear the SoulCycle employee say things like “put your spiked foot in this bike pedal” or anything along those lines, so it takes me a very long time to actually get on the bike. (To her credit, the SoulCycle employee is super-patient. I would have killed me.) Once I am finally on it, I start trying to do a push-up on the bike in time to the music, as that is what everyone else is doing. From up above, we must look like a Busby Berkeley military parade.
Later, during a calm period of non-head-banging, I am finally able to read what is written on the wall. Printed there, in broad candlelight, are words like “Athlete,” “Warrior,” and “Renegade” — the exact type of bromides that led Hunter S. Thompson to an early grave! I thought women were too smart to be talked to in this idiotic American way. I thought we were all more like Angela Merkel.
Still, after class, and in a delirium, I buy a shirt that says “Athlete,” “Warrior,” and “Renegade” on it. I have no idea why. Perhaps because Taylor Swift actually is all of these designations. I’m not going to wear it.
Days 4 and 5
I go home for the holidays to Rhode Island, which is my ancestral home and also one of the homes of Taylor Swift. (She has a summer house on the ocean in Westerly and she keeps trespassers away with a sign that says, “I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In.” ) While there, I drink many Pumpkin Spice Lattes, eat sandwiches and salads for lunch, and try to run while listening to the popular music of the day, which is something Taylor Swift loves to do, because “running is all about the music.”
I take my sister to the gym to run on a treadmill with me.
“What’s that shirt?” she says as we’re pulling up.
“I don’t know,” I mutter. “It’s from SoulCycle.”
Late in the evening, when I have nothing to do, I scroll through the entirety of Taylor Swift’s Instagram. Her evolution is rather interesting. At first, she has a normal Instagram — something that you or I would make if we were slightly depressed. There are pictures of her cats and a particularly sad shot titled “Cupcake Party for One.” Then, right around the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show of 2013, she starts finding these cool friends and her Instagram begins looking much more professional. There are more high-res shots. Taylor goes to concerts. Taylor invites people over to decorate for the holidays. Taylor is sliding down an enormous adult Slip’N Slide with many other adults. It’s a true success story.
Today is Christmas — a holiday I particularly associate with Taylor Swift because she “loves nutmeg and cinnamon.” On the drive home from the holidays with my family, we stop at McDonald’s and I get Taylor Swift’s favorite snack — some fries and a McFlurry to dip them in. It’s delicious, although I must say I am not unfamiliar with that snack’s appeal.
Days 7 and 8
One of the best parts of diet journalism is that you get to heartily embrace sources of information that other journalists would turn away from in disgust. Therefore, when I find out from a website titled HealthGuideInfo.com that “all over the Internet, rumors swirl that Swift maintains a raw food diet,” I immediately decide to spend two days on a raw-food diet.
The philosophy behind the raw-food diet is simple. Adherents believe that food becomes less nutritious once you cook it, and therefore you need to eat it in raw form to truly get its benefits. What that means is that you are basically a vegetarian with no joy at all. You have kale shakes all the time. You can turn cashews into nut cheese if you want; it’s very dispiriting.
I basically eat salads most of the time I do the raw-food diet and am completely miserable. The one time I cheat is when I go to my favorite restaurant in all of Rhode Island and have some cooked vegetables (I also have a tiny bit of pizza, but it is very small and regimented). Back in New York, I break the diet with a Shake Shack repast. As Taylor once said, according to her author quotes on Goodreads, “giving up doesn’t always mean your weak sometimes your just strong enough to let go.”
The other thing I do during this period is cook Taylor’s famous chai sugar cookies with eggnog icing. Taylor released the recipe to Country Living! You basically dump a chai-tea bag into sugar-cookie batter and then whip up some eggnog with sugar for the icing. They are apparently quite disgusting. “They kind of taste like a Pumpkin Spice Latte,” says my sister.
I’m off the diet! I have developed a particularly rarefied palate for holiday-themed sweeteners and am the proud owner of a hat and a shirt that I will never wear again. What can we say about Taylor Swift’s diet? It is a diet I would like to be friends with. It is very normal and approachable.
In the end, however, Taylor is far more “Warrior” and “Renegade” than she is normal. I would only compare her to my other hypothetical friend Madonna. For the millennial era, Taylor is the true master of reinvention: one minute a teen, the next a woman getting her heart broken, the third a fun friend who loves Knicks games. She is constantly changing our glimpse into her life to suit her evolving art.
If celebrity is in itself a construction, then, well, I appreciate how expertly this one was designed. I will do this diet any day!

In case you’re not an in-the-know Swiftie, Taylor and BFF Selena Gomez made headlines last week when they tried a new workout together: Body by Simone.
While Simone De La Rue has been a staple in the New York City fitness scene for years, it seems like her studios (in New York City and Los Angeles) are suddenly the hot new spot for celebs. Recently, A-listers such as Chrissy Teigen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Reese Witherspoon have all been crediting Simone for their strong, toned bodies. So, as the mbg fitness editor and a Taylor Swift fanatic, I had to try the workout asap.
Though Taylor and Selena (yes, we’re on a first-name basis) visited the L.A. location in West Hollywood, I ventured to Simone’s studio in New York City in West Chelsea. It’s a large, bright space (thanks to great lighting) with two big studio rooms with high ceilings. The locker rooms are bigger than what you’d find at a typical Manhattan studio, which is an added perk.
I’ll cut to the chase — the class was pretty awesome: I was expecting a light, Pilates-type workout but left a sweaty mess.
The hour-long class went by fast — mostly because of Simone’s attitude, teaching style, and fun pop-centric playlist. It was a mash-up of intense leg work (think Tracy Anderson, but without the leg weights) and dance cardio that made me feel like I was a backup dancer on tour with Beyoncé.
The workout was doable, but the dance part was challenging for me since I was never a big dancer (let’s face it, neither is Tay). Simone prompts you to let loose and get your arms in on the action (pretending you have a whip or are cheers-ing a friend with a drink). She has fun energy that makes you want to do the work just to make her happy.
Her studio offers four different types of classes: dance cardio, full body, hips/thighs/buns, and trampoline cardio. I couldn’t find out which class Taylor took. (The studio is pretty discreet: I asked; they wouldn’t tell.) So instead, I asked Simone why celebs (and paparazzi) seem to be flocking to her studio.
“I think it’s because we treat them like real people,” she said. “We subtly request that they check their ego at the door, and treat them like everyone else.”
Though I’d add that everyone is treated really well, Simone and her staff are warm and inviting — and won’t laugh at you if you can’t keep up with their dance steps (as I couldn’t). The instructors are great about coming around and correcting your form without making you feel like a slacker.
“Plus, you see results fast,” she added. Bottom line, Taylor Swift is on to something, and I’ll be back at Simone’s studio soon.
When we talk about Taylor Swift, we know that she is a great artist and somebody who is highly successful in what she does. We also know that she likes her cats, great Instagram photos, her squad and the food. Even though she is pretty busy, recording new songs, going on tours and filming her music videos, we can see that she is quite a good cook. She is always in great shape as well, which just goes to show you that she eats quality food.
Today, we are going to take a look at some of the things that she eats, as well as her favorite foods.
While there are some unhealthy treats that she does consume, the fact of the matter is that she keeps it healthy most of the time.
Chicken and dumplings – In Nashville, this is her top choice. Taylor really likes this meal and we don’t blame her. It’s delicious.
Chicken tenders – Even though not all ways of making the chicken are the healthiest, eating chicken is always going to be good for you. That is why Taylor enjoys in these tenders.
Coffee – This is no doubt her favorite beverage. She does enjoy her coffee very much. We bet that some of you love to during coffee just as much as Taylor does.
Cookie dough – As we said, she does eat clean most of the time. But she also likes to enjoy food, so she always has something for binge eating in her fridge. Cookie dough is her go-to choice.
Hummus – A healthy choice, something that she always has in her fridge. It is a staple for her.
Homemade baked goods – We told you that she has become quite a cook. Well, she is a good baker as well and she does make something nice her from time to time, especially if it’s time for a cheat meal.
Orange Juice – Coffee is her favorite, but the day doesn’t go by without her taking a sip of the good old O.J. Who doesn’t love a glass of orange juice?
Taylor Swift is nearly 30 so, naturally, she’s doling out several life lessons — 30 to be exact — about what she’s learned over the last three decades — and some of them revolve around her favorite foods.
The superstar singer and songwriter told Elle she’s always loved to cook but now that she’s in full adult mode, she’s perfected a few foolproof dinner party recipes. Because what else are one’s 20s for if not to make mistakes, cook delicious pasta and win some Grammy Awards?
In Swift’s pursuit of the ideal dinner party recipe, she noted three that she told the magazine she’ll be making for life. Of course Swift draws inspiration from Ina Garten, who has won the adoration of millions of home cooks, including Jennifer Garner, who even created her own mock cooking show in the style of her Barefoot idol. She also looks to Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver for the types of meals that will satisfy everyone at the table — except maybe vegans, since the dishes all include meat.

Swift’s favorite recipe of the Barefoot Contessa is her “Real Meatballs and Spaghetti.”
“I just use packaged bread crumbs and only ground beef for meat,” Swift noted about the recipe, which usually requires a mix of pork, veal and beef, as well as homemade white bread crumbs.
When she’s in the mood for chicken, Swift looks to Lawson, who has proven time and again she’s a whiz with how to make the perfect poultry. Swift likes to make Lawson’s Mughlai Chicken, an Indian-inspired dish that uses moist chicken thighs along with warm spices like cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and garam masala, with a creamy balance of yogurt and buttery almond slivers.

Another one of Swift’s swear-by chicken recipes is Jamie Oliver’s Chicken Fajitas with Molé Sauce, because when is Mexican food ever not a crowd pleaser? Oliver’s molé, a tomato-based sauce with chipotle, chocolate and cinnamon, is easy to make and ideal for a large crowd of hungry celebrities.
In addition to her go-to recipes, Swift also shared some top-secret culinary tips. For example, she’s learned how to make some killer cocktails: Pimm’s cups, Aperol spritzes, old-fashioneds and mojitos, specifically.
“Getting a garlic crusher is a whole game changer,” she also advised. “I also learned how to immediately calculate Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head. (Which is what I’m pretty sure the internet would call a ‘weird flex.’)”
In lesson 26, Swift shared that she likes to make “countdowns” for things she’s excited about. “Sometimes we can get overwhelmed in the now, and it’s good to get some perspective that life will always go on, to better things,” the star said.

Seeing as the country singer seems to be the queen of breakups — John Mayer, Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, and Jake Gyllenhaal, to name a few — it’s kind of fitting that she shares her must-have binge foods in a new interview. We’re sure they’re coming in handy right about now as she works her way through her latest split.
“I’ve been my mom’s kitchen helper since I was a little kid,” Swift tells Bon Appétit. Now that she has a posh pad to call her own — she lives in a $2.5 million penthouse condo in Nashville along with her kitty, Meredith — she likes being the hostess with the mostess and often invites pals over for dinner parties. However, Swift is only 22, so she admits she’s still learning some cooking basics. “When I figured out how to work my grill, it was quite a moment,” she says in the magazine’s November issue.

Although there is very little that is typical about Swift compared to most young women her age — can you imagine her bank balance in comparison to your average college senior? — what you’ll find in the singer’s refrigerator on any given day is surprisingly normal, especially her binge items. Swift shares the six foods that you’ll always find her kitchen. “1. Eggs. I love making buckwheat crepes with ham, Parmesan cheese, and a fried egg on top. It’s my go-to breakfast,” she tells the magazine. “2. Thinly sliced ham and chicken from the deli. I like to always have the option to make someone a sandwich. 3. Orange juice. I drink it with breakfast every morning. 4. Diet Coke. Because it understands me. 5. Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. 6. There’s always some sort of binge food — like a tube of cinnamon rolls or a giant tub of cookie dough. Because I’m that girl.”

That girl also loves local fare when she’s home in the Volunteer State. “My absolute favorite meal in Nashville is sweet-potato pancakes at Pancake Pantry,” she reveals, name-checking one of the restaurants where she and Kennedy, 18, were seen on a date. If she’s doing the cooking, it’s chicken and dumplings. “It’s very southern, and I like a good theme,” she tells the magazine. And although Swift is a wisp of thing, she has many indulgences. On the top of the list is her mother’s brisket and pot roast. ” are out of this world,” she says. “She also makes toffee with brown sugar, chocolate chips, butter, and Saltines. Those are high-calorie days for me.”

When she’s on the road, Swift’s diet is different. The singer, who says she drinks 10 bottles of water of day, tells Bon Appétit that her days start with a Michael Phelps-style breakfast, including eggs, sausage, biscuits, and “anything else I can get my hands on.” But while she does begin with a huge meal (and we’re kidding about the comparison to Phelps’ infamous 12,000 calorie a day intake), Swift doesn’t eat again until her show is over — which could be after midnight. “It’s not good to eat late!” she admits. “But on tour there’s dancing, and tight dresses, and I get shot out of a catapult-like lift. You make up your own rules.”
Bon Appétit’s strangest recipes ever
Making up her own rules seems to be Swift’s m.o. Known for penning scathing songs about her exes — a recent one off her latest album Red is called “We are never ever getting back together” — we can’t wait to hear what she works up about her brief summer romance with Kennedy. We’re sure she’s hard at work at it right now … in between spoonfuls of cookie dough.
