Nature’s bounty probiotic reviews

Scientists Have Found an Important Reason You Might Want to Reconsider Taking Probiotics

Bacteria used to have a bad rap. Then along came probiotics.

Suddenly it became impossible to avoid food products spruiking ‘good’ bacteria, but while there’s evidence to suggest probiotics can be beneficial to your health, new research shows they may also have serious side effects.

In a new study led by a team from Augusta University, researchers found what they say is the first known link between probiotic use, bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, and symptoms of disorienting brain fogginess.

In the study, patients who reported confusion and difficulty concentrating – in addition to experiencing gas and bloating feelings – were found to be harbouring large colonies of bacteria breeding in their small intestines, with high levels of D-lactic acid being produced by bacterial fermentation of sugars in their food.

“What we now know is that probiotic bacteria have the unique capacity to break down sugar and produce D-lactic acid,” explains lead researcher and gastroenterologist Satish S.C. Rao.

“So if you inadvertently colonise your small bowel with probiotic bacteria, then you have set the stage for potentially developing lactic acidosis and brain fogginess.”

Inadvertent would be the key term there, because probiotics are supposed to work in the colon – not in the small intestine or stomach.

But if they end up there and start breeding in the organ – abetted by probiotics boosting their numbers – the consequences can be serious.

D-lactic acid is temporarily toxic to brain cells, and can interfere with people’s cognition, ability to think, and sense of time.

In the study, the researchers found some patients had two to three times the normal amount of D-lactic acid in their blood, leading to bouts of brain fogginess that could last for hours after eating, and in some cases were so severe that patients had to quit their jobs.

Sometimes, the effects could be rapid, with the researchers finding one patient who experienced brain fogginess and bloating within a minute of eating.

“It happened right in front of our eyes,” Rao says.

Of course, not all people would experience the same symptoms from taking probiotics, and not all probiotics are the same either.

But Rao says the experience of the patients he and his team clinically observed over three years shows nobody should casually or indiscriminately be taking probiotics without taking medical advice.

“Probiotics should be treated as a drug,” he says, “not as a food supplement.”

Researchers had previously found probiotics could lead to health problems in people with a short bowel – where the small intestine doesn’t function properly – but the new findings indicate otherwise healthy people can succumb to brain fogginess and bloating if bacterial colonies start to thrive in the small intestine.

The good news is the symptoms, for the most part, weren’t permanent.

When patients experiencing brain fogginess and bloating took treatment –taking antibiotics, giving up probiotics, and staying away from foods that naturally contain them, like yoghurt – most symptoms were alleviated.

About 70 percent of patients reported significant improvement, with 85 percent saying their brain fogginess disappeared, and those who experienced bloating also reported improvements.

If you’re experiencing any of the same cognitive or bloating problems, you should really see a doctor – but if you regularly take probiotics or eat a lot of yoghurt, it looks like there’s a decent chance that could be contributing.

The findings are reported in Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology.

So, is the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 supplement worth buying?

Unless they only contain B. coagulans, the vast majority of multi-strain probiotic supplements contain many different bifidobacteria strains. Probiotic 10 contains just 1, in the form of B. lactis.

The 9 other probiotic strains include 2 different types of L. paracasei (DSM 13434 and Lpc-37) and L. plantarum (Lp299v and DSM 15312). This means that, based on current scientific studies, it’s going to be less effective at relieving IBS symptoms such as stomach pain, bloating, and difficulty having a bowel movement.

However, having such a strong focus on lactobacillus probiotic strains means Probiotic 10 is particularly effective at speeding children’s recovery from rotaviral diarrhea. It’s also going to be more effective at preventing diarrhea caused by antibiotics and cancer treatment (chemotherapy).

Overall, Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 contains enough live cultures and probiotic strains to improve digestive health. Just be aware that you may not experience the same full range of health benefits that you could with a probiotic that combines multiple lactobacillus and bifidobacteria strains, such as Garden of Life Primal Defense Ultra (5 bifidobacteria strains, 7 lactobacillus strains, 15 billion CFU).

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 Review – A Fusion Of Ten

| Overview | Probiotic Strains | Amounts | Beneficial Substances | Additives | GMO Presence | Conclusions |

In this Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 Review, we will explore all there is to be explored about the supplement. All to help you know all relevant before making a purchase.

Thus, this article will first focus on covering the claims made by the supplement manufacturer. Then we’ll stir our focus in exploring the probiotic strains present in the supplement, as well as the total amounts of them. And lastly, we’ll also reserve a section for additional beneficial substances and additives to discuss.

All to make as accurate of an assessment about the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 as possible.

The goal here is to create a review so thorough that there would not be a need for you to ever look at another supplement review for this specific supplement. Therefore, if there is a section or aspect I haven’t covered but you’re interested in, let me know. And I’ll add that to the review.

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 Review – The Overview

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 is a probiotic supplement geared towards absolute well-being of your gut that is made up of 10 different strains, as well as has an additional beneficial substance to the mix.

Although the description page of this supplement does contain more information than, for example, the one of Nature’s Bounty B12, it’s appropriate and not too loaded with information.

It does cover all the crucial stuff – Supplement facts, some five sentences about the supplement accompanied by a truly short video. Overall nothing boastful, all very down to earth.

In essence, the video and those 5 sentences explain what probiotics are and how they can potentially improve your health.

For those of you who do not know yet, probiotics are recognized as the good bacteria that improve your gut health, thus also positively affecting overall well-being, assisting digestive processes, contributing to immune system’s function, as well as helping in absorbing the nutrients. Consequently, making probiotics one of the most important pieces of nutrition for anyone .

These are also the benefits that the description page of the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 list.

The supplement is also said to not contain any Artificial Colors, Flavors, or Sweetener, Preservatives, Sugar, Starch, Milk, Lactose, Gluten, Wheat, Fish, and Sodium. All while also being suitable for vegetarians.

Overall the supplement does sound quite captivating.

But does its ingredients stand behind it?

The Supplement Offers A Variety Of Probiotic Strains

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10, as the name suggests, contains 10 different species of organisms.

Therefore, at the end of the day, a simple general rule to follow is that the more various species of probiotics the supplement contains the better. Which means that you should always go with a supplement that contains at least a couple of them .

But again the more the better.

Thus, when considering the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 the number it provides – 10 various ones – it’s a very good number.

It’s much, much better than many of its competitors.

And this not only in regards to the number of various strains but also in regards to their amounts.

The Amounts Are Solid

There are many probiotic supplements out there that are not sufficient in providing proper dosage. Thus, those most of the time are too weak to provide a solid and significant benefit.

The best practices suggest that you need 10-20 billion of a population of probiotic bacteria twice daily.

And this is exactly what the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 provides.

To be exact, it recommends taking a serving of two capsules daily preferably with a meal. Any single serving or two capsules contain 20 billion probiotic bacteria. Meaning any single capsule contains 10 billion of the good bacteria.

Thus, the recommended daily amount of Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10, in essence, is the lower margin of what is considered as the best practices.

Consequently, you might also opt for a double amount that accounts for 20 billion probiotic organisms twice daily. Surely, this will be more expensive but also potentially significantly more beneficial.

I would highly suggest this approach if you know you’ve been guilty of a lot of processed foods and loads of fast-food restaurant visits lately. But, by no means, you need to necessarily do this.

Going with the lower margin of what the supplement recommends will also be extremely beneficial.

Inulin Is All About Improving The Efficacy

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 offers only one beneficial substance, however, it is very aligned with the main purpose of the supplement.

Inulin is the soluble fiber found in all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. In essence, it is a substance that stimulates the growth of the good bacteria in the gut .

There are a few side-effects known for this substance if you seriously overdo it, which on most part come in a form of stomach problems and can be easily remedied by drinking loads of water .

However, you’re extremely unlikely to encounter this in the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10.

On that same note, Inulin is much more well-known for the benefits it exhibits. So, as I mentioned, Inulin stimulates the growth of beneficial bacteria, which improves digestion, relieves constipation, improves nutrient absorption, immunity and overall health, and has other marvelous health benefits .

So, in its very essence Inulin works as a complementary tool for the probiotics further improving the health benefits associated with them.

Four Different Additives – All Compatible With Health

In nowadays environment, many supplement manufacturers try cutting costs wherever they can. One such area that suffers most due to this is additives.

Many manufacturers in their supplements employ harmful and in the long-term ill-side-effects promising additives. Furthermore, not rarely the harmless-harmful additive use varies greatly among various supplements of the same manufacturer.

Thus, it’s always crucial to explore what kind of additives does a particular supplement has.

In the case with Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10, there are four additives – Dicalcium Phosphate, Vegetable Cellulose, Silica, and Vegetable Magnesium Stearate.

Of these, there’s been quite a debate about the Magnesium Stearate by far most people deeming it harmful, thus, avoidable. However, scrupulous and diligent analysis proves the other side much more accurate and the former completely unfounded .

But at the end of the day, all of these are considered harmless, thus, can be used generally without any possible implications on your health or well-being in the long run.

However, I must note that in truth, the risk exists always and with every ingredient imaginable because we all are different and the possibility of an allergy for some very few people can never be completely ruled out. Therefore, my point is that with these additives that are present in the supplement it’s extremely unlikely to ever affect you negatively, to say the least.

Could This Be Of GMOs? – Likely!

There is a particular trend visible when it comes to the claims expressed in regards to the Nature’s Bounty vitamins.

In regards to this particular supplement at hand, there is a claim that it does not contain any Artificial Colors, Flavors, or Sweetener, Preservatives, Sugar, Starch, Milk, Lactose, Gluten, Wheat, Fish, and Sodium.

But what about GMOs?

First, why would they not list it as one of the claims (GMOs-Free or Non-GMO) if it were true?

That would only add to the value of the supplement.

But when we look at other Nature’s Bounty supplements, like the Nature’s Bounty B12 it becomes apparent that they actually use this claim as the very first one of the list if it holds true (see also the example of Nature’s Bounty Biotin, as well as many other supplements).

Thus, it’s pretty safe to say that Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 has GMO ingredients in it.

While some may be indifferent to this, in fact, this is not a good thing.

Even worse this GMO most likely is present due to the Soy being in the supplement (it’s indicated on the label that it contain Soy). Which has every reason to come back later to haunt you.

Soy associated GMOs can potentially cause infertility, block protein digestion, mineral deficiencies, and other very unpleasant adverse effects. But above all, it is known to be a factor that promotes chronic inflammation .

Whereas chronic inflammation is the root cause of any chronic disease on the Planet, including cancer, dementia, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and loads of others .

So, this is definitely something to think about and be aware of.

Final Thoughts On Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10

All in all, the Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 seems to be a quite solid and beneficial probiotic supplement.

It offers sufficient amounts and a great variety of various Probiotic strains. On top of that, it also invigorates the probiotic effect by having Inulin to the blend while also employing only harmless additives.

On that same note, it’s extremely likely that the supplement contains GMO material of soy, which is not really compatible with good health. And thus, over the long term can come back to bite you.

Which is never really something you should be after.

Thus, by all means, you can try the supplement if you’d like but I wouldn’t stick with it long-term – there are better Non-GMO containing, of similar quality and quantity probiotic supplements out there.

So, no need to settle for this one.

Above all, I hope this Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10 review helped you find the information you were looking for. But if not, definitely let me know in the comments on how I could further improve it.

If you get a chance, even one line in the comments helps a ton and will be highly and sincerely appreciated.

Hope to see you in another article!

Cheers, Stay Healthy & Have a Great One!

Overall Opinion:

Overall, at 2.5 out of 5 stars, Nature’s Bounty Probiotic CD Controlled Delivery is an average probiotic.

There are things I like and things I don’t like, but nothing really knocked my socks off to give it a higher rating.

I like that this probiotic uses a 6 probiotic strains, which is a great amount for a gentle, daily probiotic.

It also uses a special delivery system called BIO-Tract that allows the probiotics to survive gastric acids and get through the digestive tract safely in order to release live probiotic cells within the digestive system.

This probiotic is easy to use; you just need to take 1 caplet daily, preferably with a meal.

The caplets are gluten free and safe for vegetarians.

This is a gentle probiotic and I didn’t see any side effects while taking it!

Now for what I don’t like…

These caplets are just no fun. They are a combination of a tablet and a capsule and I tend to only like tablets when they are the small spheres (just because they are SO easy to get down).

The caplets were hard to swallow and they started dissolving while still in my mouth, which is a pet peeve of mine.

Another downside is that this probiotic contains MILK.

That’s a bummer because so many people have a milk allergy.

You also have to refrigerate the bottle after opening, which makes it less convenient and stable.

One last thing is that I appreciate how gentle this probiotic is, but I would’ve liked to see a few more billion CFU to make it ideal for daily use.

I didn’t see any side effects but I also didn’t really see improvement with my IBS symptoms.

Overall, at 2.5 out of 5 stars, Nature’s Bounty Probiotic CD Controlled Delivery is an average probiotic because it’s gentle, has a solid 6 probiotic strains, and uses BIO-tract but it contains milk, needs to be refrigerated and the caplets are not easy to get down.

The Details:

Ingredients/Strain Profile

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic CD Controlled Delivery contains 2 billion cells in 6 probiotic strains.

In particular, I like the addition of Lactobacillus acidophilus in the probiotic strain profile.

It’s one of my favorites and has been used in a great deal of probiotic research studies.

Lactobacillus acidophilus has been shown to potentially relieve the symptoms from Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and gut dysbiosis.

This strain may also help boost immune function, treat yeast infections, and decrease the frequency of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

I also like the use of Bifidobacterium longum in the probiotic lineup.

This strain has been researched to show many potential health benefits such as decreasing seasonal allergies, pathogen infections, gastrointestinal upset, and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Bifidobacterium longum may also help with weight maintenance, bone health, and lowering cholesterol.

Allergy Concerns

Nature’s Bounty Probiotic CD Controlled Delivery is fairy allergy friendly.

The big allergy concern that it does have is MILK.

It says that it contains milk ingredients, however in the other ingredients section it doesn’t list anything with milk.

Regardless, if you’re allergic to milk, I suggest choosing another probiotic.

Everything else seems pretty allergy friendly though.

The capsules contain No Sugar, No Starch, No Soy, No Gluten, No Wheat, No Yeast, and No Fish.

This probiotic is Non-GMO and contains No Artificial Flavor, No Artificial Sweetener, and No Preservatives.

As a perk, it’s also suitable for vegetarians.

Price/Value

For 30 caplets, lasting 1 month, it costs $17.99.

When you break it down, it works out to $0.59 a day to take these.

This ends up being an average price for a probiotic.

I think it’s a decent value for the price but I’d rather spend my money on a probiotic that has a little more CFUs in the formula.

Side Effects

I’m really happy because I didn’t see any sort of side effects while taking Probiotic CD, such as stomach pain or bloating.

Yay!

With only 2 billion CFU, this is definitely a gentler probiotic that’s intended for daily use.

Guarantee

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a guarantee for Nature’s Bounty Probiotic CD Controlled Delivery.

I looked all over their website without any luck.

This is a bummer!

I definitely like when companies can at least offer something for their customers.
