The HCG diet involves caloric restrictions and regular injections of the HCG hormone. Lunch and Dinner on the HCG Diet

While you are following the 500 calorie HCG plan, your meal choices are limited. For lunch and dinner, you can choose one 100-gram serving of chicken breast, lobster, veal, shrimp, beef, crab, or fresh white fish. Before you cook the meat, you must remove all of the visible fat. The 100 grams refers to the raw weight of the meat. You can also choose one vegetable from the following list: asparagus, celery, green salad, spinach, cabbage, chard, red radishes, chicory, beet-greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, fennel, and onions. In addition, you can have one Melba toast or a single breadstick. To close out the meal, you can choose from an apple, a half of a grapefruit, a handful of strawberries, or an orange. If you like, you can eat the breadstick or the fruit as a snack between meals. The meal options stay the same until you are finished with the main phase of the diet.

Additional Permitted HCG Diet Foods

In addition to the regular lunch and dinner foods, the HCG meal plan allows you to use the juice of a single lemon each day. While you are cooking, you can use almost any type of spice, garlic, and vinegar, but you may not use butter, oil, or any type of dressing. The diet permits you to drink water, coffee, and tea in any quantity throughout the day. As a guide, you should aim for approximately two liters of fluid each day.

HCG Meal Plan Examples

Given the limited number of allotted calories on the HCG diet meal plan, excellent recipes are crucial to success. For lunch, you might make an apple chicken salad with cooked chicken, a diced apple, and diced celery, mixed with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, salt, and stevia to taste. At dinner, you could have roasted white fish paired with pickles made from a cucumber, garlic, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt. Phase Zero: Pre-diet Cleanse
Some variations of the HCG diet preface the four phases of the HCG diet with a cleanse or detox. Although it is not necessary or required, a cleanse diet can help prepare your body and mind for the HCG diet phases. Any type of cleanse will work. If you want an extreme detoxification, you can choose a candida cleanse or a colon cleanse. For a less extreme option, you can spend a week eliminating all processed foods from your diet.

Phase One
During the first phase of the HCG diet, you increase your caloric and fat intakes for two days, focusing on high-fat foods. At the same time, you will take HCG injections. Phase Two

After you’re finished with the HCG, you must remain on the 500-calorie diet for three days.

Phase Three
During the third phase of the HCG diet, which lasts three to four weeks, you will maintain your new weight. Some variations of the HCG diet advise you to avoid starches and sugars during the third phase; others require that you avoid milk and excessive fat. After a minimum of twenty-three days, you can begin a new round of HCG. Otherwise, you will move on to the last phase.

Phase Four
The final phase of the HCG diet involves maintaining your weight. Depending on your size and physiology, you will need to eat enough calories to prevent further weight loss or gain. Your caloric intake will usually fall somewhere between 1,500 and 2,500 calories per day; your doctor can help you determine the ideal intake level. Although you will not need to follow the HCG diet meal plan, it is safest to eat clean, unprocessed foods while you maintain your weight.

The hCG Diet Australia’s protocol is set out with 3 distinct phases.

  • ​Dinner – 100 grams of any one approved protein, 1 vegetable serve
  • Konjac noodles can be added to lunch and dinner meals (optional)
  • 2-3 litres of filtered water should be consumed to help the body flush toxins.

The total calories for this sample day are approximately 500. In this example we have spread the food (calories) throughout the day as so many people prefer to stay in the same eating routine they are used to. However, you can be totally flexible and arrange your daily totally food intake to be eaten over just lunch and dinner. It is totally your choice, provided you stick to the allowable food and drink and do not exceed 500 calories each day.

One final point on the food/drink! To see great results it is best to finish your dinner (final meal of the day) no later than 6.30pm if possible.

What choices are available on the hCG Diet Australia Menu?

Before we go through the list of foods and drinks that you can eat during the diet, it’s important to take your own dietary needs into account. If you are allergic to certain foods or simply dislike some foods/drinks on the list then you cannot switch them out and replace them with other foods, UNLESS the replacement foods/drinks choices are on the allowed list.

You cannot mix vegetables on the HCG Diet, for instance you cannot have 1 cup lettuce with a few tomatoes and cucumbers.

There are a couple of vegetables that are higher in carbs than others in the selection ie tomatoes and onions, so you may want to limit these selections to 1 medium size if you feel your weight loss is slowing down.

You can steam, bake, stew or sauté them in a non-stick pan.

Fruit Allowed:

Many fruits in general contain high amounts of sugar, so although they are a part of a healthy daily diet, when working on the hCG program these are the fruits you can choose from. You can enjoy two servings a day.

Starchy Food Allowed:

Whilst starchy carbohydrates are limited in most weight loss programs and the hCG program is no different. These are the couple that are included:

Chilli Coriander Chicken (5 servings)

Ingredients:

  • 500 gm Chicken Breast (sliced/diced as desired)
  • I onion (finely diced/sliced)
  • Garlic to taste (crushed)
  • Chilli to taste (finely diced) – extra sliced thinly for serving
  • Coriander (finely chopped) – extra leaves for serving
  • Massel Chicken stock (to taste)
  • Water

Method:

Add chicken to hot pan and stir till well sealed on all sides
Add onion, garlic and chilli and simmer covered until chicken is cooked through – add water if needed to stop sticking
Add coriander, stock and water as required– less for thicker sauce, more for thinner broth.
Add spinach or bok choy or asparagus etc., from the allowed list and cook a few minutes extra.

Lastly let’s discuss CHEATING!! Is it inevitable? Eating outside the food list for the hCG diet.

What to do if you blow your hCG diet.

Cheating while on the HCG diet can make you feel like you’ve failed yourself, but you can come back from it and be a stronger person because of it. Are you going to want that piece of chocolate at the end of a difficult day? Of course, you will. Life gets in the way of our goals for all of us sometimes, but you can push past those temptations and get to the healthy weight that you want to be.

On saying this we must admit that the hCG diet is not very forgiving so try to stay on track by planning the timing of your diet well. ie try to ensure that you do not have a wedding or birthday in the middle of your allocated 23-40 days of phase 2. The more spot on you are with your eating/drinking the better your results will be.

What Can You Eat on the HCG Diet?

Losing extra weight keeps us fit and enables us to pursue our daily activities well. Besides, we can regain our desired body shape. There are different ways to lose extra weight. Some of them are long-term, and some of them are short-term.

HCG diet is one of the most low-calorie diets among them and the fastest ways to lose weight. About 1-2 pounds weight can be reduced per day as the diet claims. So, it is easily understood how effective (may not be perfect) way to cut out the extra weight of your body. In this diet, you are allowed to consume only 500 calories each day, which is insufficient for any human body to survive.

However, this diet plan has been popular for years and still practiced to lose weight. It’s an extreme diet cutting at least 1-2 pounds every day without making you feel hungry. It is now available in dosage, sprays, and injections.

If you are in this diet, you will not be allowed to cross the limit of 500 calories per day. But on average, a woman needs 2000 calories per day, whereas a man needs 2500 calories per day. Thus according to FDA, it is a wrong way to reduce weight and may have the potential causes of various diseases, including cancer as well.

When you are on a specific diet plan, you have to maintain your eating plan, meaning what you can eat to gain the result. As you are on the ultra-low-calorie diet, you have to include the following foods in your everyday diet.

Your daily menu should look like

For your breakfast, you are only allowed to have a cup of tea or coffee just with a tablespoon of milk and sugar as you have to avoid added sugar on this diet plan. Otherwise, you may eat only 200 grams of protein for your lunch and dinner. So, you can eat 200 grams of protein twice per day. The lists of foods are concise, but you have to continue as long as you are on this diet to achieve your final goal.

Concentrate on low-calorie vegetables, fruits, and carbs

This diet has been designed to gain low-protein in your every day’s diet plan. So, you need to consume those fruits, vegetables, and carbs which are low in protein. You can include cucumbers, onions, radishes, tomatoes, cabbage, etc. because they are low-cal veggies.

Do not eat any solid food before lunch or dinner. For your fruits items, you can include an apple, an orange, strawberries, and grapefruit.

Don’t include butter or oil

You cannot use butter or oil in your diet as long as you are on the HCG diet plan because they are restricted to include. Instead of doing so, you can add some flavor to your food so that taste good including salt, pepper, thyme, mustard powder, and basil.

There is also a limitation for your beverage items. You can have tea or coffee but with the instructed amount of tea, water.

Possible Side Effects of the Diet Plan

It should be wise to consult with your physician before planning to involve with this diet plan. If you have allergies, heart disease, kidney disease, ovarian cyst, asthma, then you must visit with your doctor to get a proper suggestion. Otherwise, you will fall in danger instead of losing your extra weight. However, you also have to keep one thing in mind that the FDA has not approved HCG as a weight loss tool.

There are several side effects you can experience while you are on this ultra-low-calorie diet plan. Possible side effects are headaches, depression, and fatigue, restlessness, swelling in the feet, ankles, and hands, pain in the injected area, and so on.

Final Verdict

There is no proven evidence that HCG is the ultimate way to lose weight. As it is designed to consume only 500 calories per day, you lose weight usually. But it can decrease your appetite for food in the long run. It is not the proper way to lose your extra pounds according to the physicians and even FDA. At present, it has different types like sprays, injections, dosages available. But it is also true that HCG has gained its popularity over the years and it is increasing day by day.

The HCG Diet starts with a huge 2-day feast!

Days 1 and 2 of the HCG Diet consist of taking a daily HCG dose and eating 3000 to 4000 calories of food per day. This is not a typo. The only requirement is that this two-day feast should contain as much high-fat food as possible.

Examples of foods that are high in fat are whole-milk dairy products, fried foods, oils, and nuts. Do a Google search for foods that are high in fat for more ideas.

DO NOT hold back on eating during these 2 days. If you hold back, you will have severe cravings and fatigue by the end of the first week.

The Very Low Calorie phase starts on the 3rd day.

From Day 3 to Day 26 you will be on a strict 500-calorie-per-day diet. On Days 3 through Day 23 you will take a daily HCG shot. You do not need to count calories. You simply need to measure your food portions on a food scale and the calories will fall into place automatically. You must also drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. This is essential for your health.

Each day you will have two scheduled meals – lunch and dinner, and two scheduled snacks. The snacks consist of one breadstick (or melba toast) and one fruit. The snacks can be taken with the meals or in between meals, but they cannot be taken together at the same time (a double snack is not allowed). Many people take one of their snacks at breakfast time.

From Day 3 to Day 26 you must take a potassium supplement and a vitamin D supplement to support your system. This is not optional.

From Day 3 to Day 10 you must take one 325mg aspirin tablet daily unless you are allergic. It must be a tablet. Capsules or caplets are not allowed.

The DIET Details

Drinks — You must drink at least 64 ounces of water every day. That’s eight 8-ounce glasses. You may also drink mineral water, sparkling water, black or green tea or black coffee in any quantity at any time. Sugar or creamer is not allowed. Only one tablespoonful of milk (skim only) is allowed in 24 hours. Saccharin (brand name Sweet ‘n’ Low) or stevia (pure without additives) may be used. You may not drink anything else.

Vitamins — You should take a potassium supplement containing 99 mg of potassium three times daily, and a Vitamin D supplement containing 1000 units once daily. Do not take multivitamin supplements or fish oil during the very low calorie diet because they contain sugars, starches and fats that will stall your progress. Don’t worry about developing a vitamin deficiency. You will not develop a vitamin deficiency in three weeks.

Breakfast — There is no scheduled breakfast meal on the HCG diet. However, the fruit or the bread portions of your lunch or dinner (see below) may be eaten at this time or as a snack between meals instead of with lunch or dinner, but they must come out of your meal serving. You may NOT eat TWO portions of any item at the same meal.

The Meat Portion

Meat Portion Size: 100 grams (3.5 ounces) weighed raw without bones or fat.

Meat Preparation Options:

Seasonings may include salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweet basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram, etc., but no oil, butter or dressing.

The Vegetable Portion

Vegetable Portion Size: Depends on the vegetable. Weighed fresh/ raw.

Vegetable Preparation Options:
Vegetables may be grilled, boiled or raw. Vegetables in broth can be used for a soup. Seasoning options are the same as for meats. No oil, butter or dressing is allowed.

Canned vegetables are NOT allowed.

The Bread Portion

The bread portion is a choice of one of the items below. There is one bread portion with lunch and one bread portion with dinner. They may be eaten along with the meat and vegetable portions at lunch time or dinner time or as a separate snack at breakfast time and between meals. However, your two bread portions for the day cannot be eaten at the same time.

Bread Portion Options:
1 Grissini breadstick (pencil sized), or 1 Melba toast, or 2 Melba “snacks” (original, garlic, whole grain, or sea salt).

The Fruit Portion

The fruit portion is a choice of one of the items below. There is one fruit portion with lunch and one fruit portion with dinner. They may be eaten along with the meat and vegetable portions at lunch time or dinner time or as a separate snack at breakfast time and between meals. However, your two fruit portions for the day cannot be eaten at the same time. It is perfectly acceptable to eat your fruit portion along with your bread portion as a separate snack.
Fruit Portion Options:
1 medium apple, 1 handful of strawberries, one half grapefruit, 1 medium orange.

Lifestyle Modifications during the HCG Diet Days 3-26:

  • For women, the best time to start the HGC Diet is just after your period has ended.
  • Be careful of everything that touches your skin as fats can be absorbed into your skin and interfere with HCG weight loss. Think lotion, lip balm, hand soap, etc. There are very few brands that offer completely oil-free options.
    You should not exercise or engage in any heavy lifting or strenuous activity during the diet. You can take short daily walks (20 minutes or less) if desired.
  • Tanning is discouraged as it can cause water retention and affect weight loss.
  • Massage and other spa treatments are also discouraged because they can interfere with weight loss.
  • In the first few days of the HCG Diet, you may experience slight headaches, but taking daily aspirin tablets during the first week should prevent them. This is normal and is caused from your body detoxing from all the sugar, preservatives, etc. Aspirin or Ibuprofen are allowed as long as they are tablets and not gel caps or sugar-coated.

The Last 3 Days

On days 24 through 26, you stop taking your HCG, but continue the 500 calorie diet to let the HCG exit your system. If you do NOT do these last three days as described, YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT.

After the HCG Diet

You will start the Maintenance Diet immediately after the HCG diet for three weeks.

  • To be used with the “HCG Diet”: It should be emphasized that these supplements in our list don’t actually contain any HCG. They should rather be called, “HCG (Diet) Drops”–drops of a supplement intended to be used when on the HCG diet. They can be used together with Dr. Simeons’ Three-Phase HCG diet:

    • The first stage suggests that you eat as much as you want of fatty foods, but while avoiding sugars, for two days. This is preparation for the low-calorie stage.

    • The second stage extends from day 3-23 and can be continued for up to 43 days. Here is when you focus on lean foods: lean meats, such as lean beef with all visible fat trimmed off, chicken breast, and non-oily fish. Also, you should avoid cooking with oil. Instead, you should broil or cook foods in water. Only lean fruits and vegetables are allowed, eaten raw. Your calorie intake will be lowered to between 500-750 calories/day.

    • The third stage extends for another 21 days, where you try to maintain the weight loss, without falling back into a cycle of gaining the weight back and then trying again to lose it again.

  • The reasoning behind the HCG diet: Reducing your calorie intake to less than 1000 calories a day will almost certainly cause you to lose weight. But an HCG diet is different. The dieting causes all of the weight loss, but HCG injections (or the supplements that mimic HCG injections) determine how you lose your weight. HCG will influence the hypothalamus to break down the fat deposits in your body while retaining muscle mass. HCG will also help you maintain weight loss. With HCG, people retain 41% more muscle than they would if they would have just eaten 500 calories a day without any HCG. Since you retain muscle, you will not have the cravings during and after dieting, that so often will cause a person to gain all of their weight back again.

  • What these supplements contain: Very often, you’ll see HCG (diet) drops contain amino acids (the building blocks of the body’s proteins) and vitamins. That’s the formula of the 1234 Diet Drops Dietary Supplement.

  • Warnings: There are numerous warnings against severe restriction in calorie intake for too long a time. Women are recommended to eat 2000 calories per day, while 1500 calories will lead to a weight loss of 1 pound/week. Men are recommended to consume 2500 calories per day, and bring that down to 2000 if they’re trying to lose weight. So going down to less than 1000 calories a day is drastic. The calorie-crash Phase 2 of the HCG Diet shouldn’t be done for more than 40 days. And you should discontinue if you experience headaches, fatigue, irritability, depression, or other symptoms.

By now you’ve probably heard about it: the HCG Diet, an extreme diet that involves injections of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). HCG is the hormone women make when they are pregnant. Previously, the HCG Diet was defined by a 500-calorie diet paired with daily injections of HCG.

This diet is associated with dramatic weight loss, up to a pound a day. But the problem, up until now, was that no doctor could explain how it worked, and critics claimed the caloric restrictions are responsible for the weight loss and not the HCG hormone. Critics of the diet have also maintained that the weight lost can’t be kept off. The HCG Diet has also had some odd rules. For example, it required the consumption of only one vegetable per meal, prohibited the use of oil, body lotions and hygiene products, and limited use of the HCG hormone to odd cycles of 23 and 46 days. The Diet also did not allow exercise. In addition, there had been no published guidelines on how to dose the HCG hormone; as a result, most providers of this diet are generally using random dosing of the prescription hormone. This was called the Simeons Protocol, and, in my opinion, it was wrong.

After years of research and treating thousands of patients, I am setting the record straight. The Simeons Protocol should no longer be in practice by any physician. My protocol is supported by numerous studies and clinical trials, the latest of which was presented to weight loss physicians at the October 2012 meeting of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, and can be read at DrEmmasDiet.com. My dosing method is customized, with much higher doses than previously published, and I’ve created specific guidelines for patients based on age and gender. I offer diets ranging from 500-1500 calories, and the diet should be chosen based on the patient and their history. I also encourage the proper types of exercise.

So, the most pressing question is: Do HCG injections work for weight loss? My answer is yes, absolutely. The trickier question is: How does HCG work for weight loss?

Here is my explanation, based on my research. Remember, HCG does not make you lose weight – the diet makes you lose weight! However, the HCG injections change how you lose weight!

  • By patient report, HCG reduces feelings of hunger. This allows them to eat very little comfortably. Why? It is believed the presence of HCG in the bloodstream takes the appetite away. In pregnant women, HCG often causes feelings of nausea in the early stages of pregnancy.
  • HCG is a pro-hormone which helps the body make more hormones. Since hormone deficiency or imbalance is usually part of the reason for weight gain, whether it’s your thyroid, or menopause (or andropause), this hormone offers help.
  • Only HCG injections have been shown to raise blood levels of HCG, so that is the only acceptable way of taking HCG at this time. Any other way of taking HCG, such as drops, pills, or sprays, are likely dissolved before ever reaching the blood, and they do not raise blood levels; this would be like taking nothing at all. An injection is the only proven method of taking HCG at this time. Injections should only be taken with a prescription from a doctor, and under medical supervision.

HCG injections keep you from losing muscle while you diet. By elevating hormone levels in the body, including testosterone, the HCG hormone creates an anabolic state (muscle-building) which counteracts the catabolic state (muscle-breakdown). There are hormone receptors on muscle fibers that respond to the increased hormone levels in patients taking the HCG hormone.

Why does that matter? During a fast, dramatic loss of pounds with crash dieting, there is a high amount of muscle that is lost. Because muscle is heavy, this loss looks good on the scale because the pounds are dropping quickly. When you lose muscle, it’s bad for your body, shape, and metabolism. The metabolism slows so much that dieter regain weight quickly, often regaining all the weight that was lost and then some. Additionally, it takes quite a bit of work to build back the muscle that has been lost.

My protocol, however, protects muscle from being lost. In fact, there is more of a pure fat loss, which causes a shrinking in inches and size of clothing. The great result is that one can become leaner, in a smaller clothing size, but with more muscle. This muscle allows for a stronger metabolism and helps people maintain their weight loss long after their diet is completed.

The foods listed below are the ONLY foods allowed on Phase 2 of the HCG Diet. We closely follow Dr. Simeons’ food list from his original manuscript because he worked with the HCG Protocol for twenty years. We also have completed the diet and we have personally used this list.

This is the OFFICIAL Simeons Hcg Diet, phase 2 food list, taken from the original manuscript protocol. This also includes an extremely thorough guide with eating and food rules that have been fact-checked for accuracy. We have also included answers to questions asked frequently by millions of Hcg Dieters in our Hcg Diet community. In other words… this is the ultimate eating guide for Hcg Dieters.

The HCG Diet Phase 2 Food List: What to eat

What foods can you eat on the Hcg Diet Plan? A typical day’s menu: Lunch: 100 grams of protein, 1 vegetable serving, 1 fruit serving and 1 starch. Dinner includes the same options as lunch. Beverages include water, coffee or tea.

Dr. Simeons allowed a very specific list of lean proteins, vegetables, fruit and carefully selected grain options. Below is the official list of allowed foods EXACTLY as published in “Pounds and Inches.”

1. BEVERAGES/DRINKS ALLOWED:

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Water
  • 1 Tbs milk daily

Guidelines: These beverages are permitted in any amount. Diet Sodas are not recommended, particularly those with aspartame. The allotted milk may be cow, almond, or coconut. Soy is not recommended since many people have a food sensitivity to soy.

2. SWEETENERS ALLOWED:

  • Saccharin
  • Stevia

Guidelines: No other sweeteners are permitted on the original protocol.

3. PROTEINS ALLOWED:

Guidelines: 100 grams of the above listed proteins only, at both lunch and dinner. The 100 gram portions should be carefully weighed prior to cooking, and with all visible fat must be trimmed. Dr. Simeons also states the proteins should be boiled or grilled, however modern diet experts agree all forms of preparation are acceptable (sauté, stewed, etc.) as long as additional fats are not used.

4. VEGETABLES ALLOWED:

Guidelines: 1 of each are allowed at lunch and dinner. Be sure to read labels when purchasing, since some brands now add excessive ingredients with high calorie results.

The official list of approved foods for Phase 2 of the Hcg Diet, particularly meats and vegetables, do not include any sauces, salad dressing or butter. You are encouraged not to use sauces such as barbecue sauce, A-1 Steak Sauce, etc., on meats nor salad dressings on salad greens, nor butter on vegetables. Original 500 Calorie Diet Menu (VLCD) Guidelines

This is the original HCG Diet 500 Calorie Menu, as published in Dr. Simeons manuscript, Pounds and Inches.

The 500 calorie menu includes a list of foods that are known as “whole foods.” These are unprocessed, in their natural state and largely focus on healthy proteins from lean meats, balanced with carbohydrates from vegetables and carefully selected fruit.

Only 2 options are available for grains, however this is not to be confused with a low carbohydrate, ketosis diet. The Hcg Diet is not a low carb diet since a significant amount of carbs are eaten through vegetables and fruit. It is not necessary to have your body in a state of ketosis, although some choose to combine an Hcg-Keto approach during Phase 2.

Organic foods are highly recommended, and no processed or prepared foods are allowed. There are additional eating tips and guidelines at the bottom of this page.

The following list are the foods that are allowed Per meal, as described by Dr. Simeons: “The actual food consumption consists of lunch and dinner (no breakfast) and the following items per meal.”

ORIGINAL 500 CALORIE DIET MENU

Breakfast:

  • Coffee or tea

Lunch:

  • 1 protein: 100 grams/ 3.5 ounces of meats from the food list below.
  • 1 vegetable: 3.5 ounces or 1 cup per serving although more is allowed, never exceeding the daily calorie limit.

Original Protocol Food/Eating: “THE RULES”

Beverages: Unlimited amounts of water, coffee and tea are permitted on the Hcg Diet. Only 1 tablespoon of milk is permitted each day: Organic skim milks are recommended, while almond milk (unsweetened) is also an option. Coconut milk is not recommended since it contains a good amount of sugar, although some dieters use this and still experience healthy loss rates.

Sweeteners should be limited on the Hcg Diet. Particularly sweeteners such as aspartame are not permitted, while limited amounts of the following are allowed in moderation.

Proteins allowed on the Hcg Diet: 100 grams of one of the above Hcg Diet foods are allowed at lunch and again at dinner. Fish is highly recommended as a staple on the diet, considering the lower calorie count and health benefits. All meats are to be weighed on a kitchen scale (these are available on Amazon for under $15) for accuracy, with all visible fat trimmed completely. Imitation crab is NOT an allowed Hcg diet food, since they are high in sugar and carbohydrates.

Vegetables allowed on phase 2 of the HCG Diet: One type of each vegetable at lunch and one at dinner. Original protocol does not allow combining vegetables (read next tip.) Calories can vary depending on the type of vegetable (for example, cherry tomatoes are 9 calories per cup, while a regular tomato is 18 calories per 100g.) Most serving sizes for vegetables are approximately 1 cup, although Dr. Simeons does not specify an allowed portion size. Read the Hcg Diet Vegetable Guide to learn more.

Mixing vegetables: Many dieters successfully combine vegetables during their Hcg Diet phase 2 and do fine. If you wish to try this, please do, but proceed with caution to avoid stalling and remember to stay within the allotted calories.

Breads/Grains allowed: Please read grissini and breadstick labels carefully. Calories can vary by brand. Restaurant breadsticks should be avoided, since some can be as high as 400 calories. 1 bread stick or Melba Toast = 1 Serving regardless of what the brand’s label says. You are allowed 1 piece per meal. In other words, even if the box says 1 serving is 2 pieces, the protocol still allows only 1 piece per meal.

How the list is “expanded” beyond the foods listed in the manuscript: Some foods are added because they are fiber foods and have near-0 calories or do not impact the HCG diet in a negative way.

Food sensitivities: If you ever find a food item causing you issues or not agreeing with you, then do not eat it. Food sensitivities are often trigger foods or culprits for weight gain amongst other issues.
